I prefer nosing in when taking a ten in a truck stop. I prefer privacy and quiet when I sleep.
I pull a 43' pneumatic trailer so there is no risk of the trailer sticking out excessively.
However, I try to make sure that the likelyhood of getting blocked in isn't TOO great. I've been parked in more times backing in than nosing in!

Well, don't do that one the end, here at the T/A in Vero Beach, FL, a truck came around the end, turned too short, caught the trailer of a Swift truck and PUSHED it forward into the truck nose to nose with the Swift.:biggrin_25513:

One evening, I backed into a space with no trucks around me. It was so nice and quiet. It was about 50 ish outside so I left the truck off. A few hours later two knuckleheads with big straights parked on either side of me, cranked up the high idle and sat there roaring. I got up, pulled out then turned around and nosed it into the spot. Then crawled back into the bunk with the truck turned off. Slept good that night.

Aaaannnddd it's Swift's fault because the truck was nosed in? What was the name on the truck that hit the Swift? If the Swift had been backed in, it would have destroyed the tractor and pushed the trailer into the nose of the other truck. So what difference did it make which way he was parked? Property was damaged at the fault of some unnamed company either way.

Alright, I confess. As green and wet behind the ears as I am , I felt it much safer as tired as I was to pull nose in.I had already circled the lot 3 times trying to get set up well. To my amazement it was a straight back in the morning. Just THEE spot to do it in. When I did wake up , there were at least 5 or 6 other trucks in that small pilot who did the same thing.

Tonight, to my good fortune there was plenty of space on the back row of this small GoMart in Charleston WV at 2030 no less. Did that one blind side in tight quarters. Big Pete out of my line of sight. Acted like I'd done it before!!:biggrin_25523:

The few times I've done it is because I was exhusted and didn't feel like backing up.

I don't doubt some do it for the noise, but I don't think the majority do. If you ever sit in a truck stop that's empty during the day and full at night you'll never see trucks in the nosed in position when they were able to pull through into a spot normally. If it was for noise they would of been nosed in even when it's empty knowing it would fill up.
