Are you a current or past driver???
I mean driving for a company.

Not meaning to offend, but I wonder if maybe you are affiliated with a training deal or something.

I only ask because you seem to REALLY like the idea of schools and classes, and have little regard for drivers who have "been there - done that" and have years and years of experience.

    But i could be wrong.
Maybe it's the "new breed" with under 5 years OTR just urinating on their "turf" so us old dogs don't seem like more than they are.

(NOTE - a driver is a driver regardless of "time". We are all doing the SAME JOB, and if you get to the point where you think you know it all, it's time to park it and work at chinamart gathering buggies off the lot.)

If that's the case medicine man and everyone that thanked you why aren't you giving anyone a shot that is on this board looking for some sort of help?

I mean since you have the knowledge and expertise in this so called buisness why aren't you helping these young lad's out with some help?

It's easier to be said then done you have your foot in the door so you can blow steam out your mouth all you want, and go back to your wonder wonder land of truck driving and everything will be fine but for those looking for a opportunity they will still be in the same boat doing such, just looking.

What do you think that the companies are ran by robot's? They are human beigns such as ourselves... ""greedy"" yes! can be the case, but they also have to find remedy on how to put food on the table for their own family. It's our fault we didn't come to become rich and open a company up and do the same as what these companies are doing. They don't have to give us chances they don't have to open up school's in their own companies they can just set a standard of what school they will pick from like some companies still do and pick you out of a litter so what's really the difference here?

I don't work for a company I'm basically trying to find a way out easy or not but I'm trying, and for some one to just say hey look this is the easy way out is BS. Your a old timer and I respect that but just because your old doesn't mean everything you say can be wise.

Just because you have so many year's under your belt as a ""Driver"" doesn't mean you can't get into a accident so It wouldn't matter if you have 1 years experience or 50. So why bad mouth the new comers instead of praising them?

I would like to know what company in today's age looks for driver's that are coming from source with out reputation? Let's be serious here.

Look at what it is not what it isn't.

    I apologize.
Sometimes the "elite-ism" of certain groups gets under my skin and I kinda blow steam.
And that is how a lot of the "school gaduates" seem to act at times.

"I did this way and you HAVE to do it too." is no way to be.
There is mo "magic bullet" to driving.

I was asked many times when OTR what school I went to.
    I answered HONESTLY.
    I went to the "ISOHKALTTHW"...

Not preferrable, but that was what we had back then.
    (yes, I am a "pre-driving school" trucker)

BTW... "ISOHKALTTHW" is "Interstate School Of Hard Knocks And Learning Things The Hard Way".

I was TAUGHT by fellow experienced drivers from day one through the last day.
And I have a LOT more to learn.

As i said, when you think you know it all.... park the truck and be a buggy boy at chinamart.
Otherwise you gonna kill yourself or someone else.

If I haven't been helpful, please point where I can... and I will.
That is something I WANT to do here.

I have given advice on other threads where I saw I could help.

It's always been sad that older hands don't help new guys.
I think it's important to help them and not let the wild stories some of them are fed be their only reference for information.

I have even known "old hands" to intentionally feed wild and outrageous stories to noobs, and think it is funny.
And we won't even go into the guys who ride around and "imagine facts", then try to pass them off at the TS as truth.

    Hey,
    We all started somewhere.
And were "NOOBS" when we did.

I have no animosity toward the "noobies".
And will answer any question THAT I CAN for anyone, any time.

Is there something I can share with you???
    Just ask.

I have at least some information to offer.
I may be "old" but I still remember pretty clear.

And I'm sure not everything just evaporated and became "different" in the last 7.5 years.

Very understandable I appreciate your concern medicineman. I learned how to drive the hard way never been to a driving school before I basically did what the op did but instead of him getting a reference out of it I basically got my Cdl going out with my uncle and him teaching me how to drive in empty lot's. He was a regional/otr driver. I stuck with him for 1 year before getting my license.

I have transitioned from truck driver to basically working as a labor-man been out of work for 2 year's in the trucking industry. I am in the midst of hoping a company give's me a chance my MVR isn't spotless but not to shabby. I think I can get hired with the minimal on my reference. I am looking for some sort of way to get a refresher myself. I spoke to maverick about my ordeal and they basically asked if I had any driving experience in the last 3 out of the three I have 1 year so that qualifies me to at-least get my foot in the door, ""But"" I don't think I'll pass the backing part of the road test (I'm rusty lol) so it wouldn't make sense for me to go out to the boon-docks to be sent back home because I failed, and basically closed my door by doing so. I'm willing to take less from someone to let me go out with them so I could learn for at least 3 month's as a refresher but I haven't found anyone. I am also afraid to join a close to home company and quit..I herd horror stories about companies just putting anything on your DAC just to F&*% with you so no other company would even bother looking at you just because you quit.

So yes I have my sob story also.

The recent experience requirement, retraining, and most of the other conditions usually only apply to interstate OTR driving.

If a job driving is what your looking for, there are many other options - even if you've been out of the biz for a while.

I just need a refresher. i don't want to just jump on someone's truck and end out messing up. I don't like closing doors behind my back. I could lie on my app and say yea I have experience but how about when the time comes to back the trailer or flatbed up then what? I'll be sent home for failing.

I think Van wyk has a refresher course with people that have there Cdl but are inexperienced.

The OP never said what companies offered him jobs after going out with the O/o.

Any company that pulls that "recent experiance" BS is totally dissing you and is not worth your effort and hard work to go to work for them . . If they cannot show enough" respect" for your past experiance then tell them to go get their insurance agents to go drive for them !!!!! Nuff said:biggrin_2559:

Nice post dude. It really is a shame with the whole refresher stipulation and quite retarded might I add. If you really think about it, every single time you decided to take a break for about a month over the course of your trucking career you would have to take a refresher for most of the big companies! No one has the time or the money for that. It's just complete disrespect is what it is, and has bullocks to do with the reason they claim. If you want to take a course every time you take a break then more power to you, but for those that are smarter and like to keep their money, get around the situation anyway you can by any means necessary. And yes, going with the OP idea does work.
