Southern Star, great post, helpful and will assist other drivers wanting back in the game. Thanks.

Yeah seriously, a guy got an owner op to hire him and pay him hardly nothing in exchange for experience. I don't see where this is a reach? It's no problem for an owner op under his own authority to hire anybody with a CDL, within reason. Geez.

instead of going through all that.........................:biggrin_25518:....................................................... take a refresher course (40 hour) for 1k and be done with it....:biggrin_25525:.....i have my class A for three years but have only "B" exp. told that to the recruiter...he said that was all i would need...(mind you this is for flatbed)

    just my 2 cents...

What we need is a list of companies who will hire drivers with out recent driving experance. Like one other member said this whole game of wanting you to fork out 3-5k for driving school again and then to start off as a new hire is BS

Yup. Just got that run around with Millis Transfer. I've been driving for 12+ years now, most of which was local/regional tractor trailer. I am still driving, except for the past 6 months it's been a tri axle dump truck. Sent an app to Millis last night, and the recruiter calls back today and asks if I'm interested in their school.

    Excuse me???

I told her I had 12 years of mostly local and regional experience and am currently employed as a driver, but would be willing to go out with a trainer for a few weeks to re-learn some of the OTR issues. She said they require the school if you don't have six months recent OTR. Then she said something that really boggled my mind. There aren't enough trainers for me to go out with one, but if I went through the school, then I could have a trainer.

What a bunch of bunk. Most likely I have more tractor trailer experience then a good percentage of the trainers, and perhaps even some of the school instructors.

Now thats funny on the trainer part. I think some of these carriers tell us that we have to go back to the mill because they have some kind of partnership with the school and it ups their cash flow....money talks BS walks

when i got a local job my sibling said an owner operator living close by wanted me to drive his new truck to portland and back every day. i seen him on the road a couple times but i stuck with my new job
these big companies want new drivers cuz pro's wont put up with alot of bs.they get some kinda tax deductions or subsidies to make it worth the liability to run a separate school system
they wanna stamp out the little guy. the recruiters dont like it but im rootin for a guy that can bypass the ata system

Wish I had a OO I could run teams with for sometime to get my current exp. up to par. As of todays date I am 1 month short of current cdl exp..WHAT A BUNCH OF BS! All day long thats what I heard..you need the full cdl school to be able to come back to driving!
As I counted back my dates I thought dang I shoulda been doing this a couple months ago.
So with having the texas dept of rehab. offering up to pay a major part of school I called roadmaster (I am still in shock that I am having to do this). They tell me I can start class next monday so I guess I gotta do what I gotta do!

I did the o/o thing and want to do it again. I'll do a 1099 like I did last time. I like to learn and going with o/o puts me in his seat.
