I thought about this last night when I was messing around with LED lights for a flash light. If he is using one of those plug in inverter, then of course it won't work but I think he also has a UPS involved somewhere from what I saw in his posts - assuming that's what he has.

A APU should handle the computer at idle, the small plug is would handle it on start up but not for long, the charging of a battery means little unless we know what he is charging it up for.

Nevertheless, it seems he needs to explain more and have some pictures to go along with the answers to the questions we have for him.

Pro tip: Porn Hub and Youporn have smartphone friendly websites now. You don't need a desktop gaming machine.

    Desktop gaming computer?!

When I drove a sleeper truck, I never had any time for TV, let alone time to play video games. I always found it funny that people had enough time to set up and aim dish systems when they parked for the night.

My theory was that the driver's income was inversely proportional to the number and complexity of entertainment amenities he had in his truck. I'd be willing to bet that held true 90% of the time.

An OTR driver has got to have the equivalent of 1 or 2 "off days" every week or so to be in HOS compliance. That's a lot of idle time especially if it's not at home.

Tb0n3 and Bob Dobalina Thank this.

I get that. I was fortunate to get home on weekends, so I was never forced to sit like that. And it was also the "good old days" of loose-leaf paper logs.

The problem was that some of those drivers were doing unintentional restarts just from waiting days for a load assignment.

I'm OTR and stay out for months I'm actually doing a rare parked reset due to not having hours to get across the nation to unload stop 1 by Thursday. So have to sit over the weekend to get a parked reset after doing a rolling reset. Glad these weeks don't happen often.

We have directv with DVR that I use to kill time with. But this weekend will be in a budget motel for two nights next to a pizza place with a great beer selection and full bar.

But we're all entitled to kill time in a way we find enjoyable, just so long as it doesn't interfere with the job or proper sleep.

The power supply in the computer changes AC to DC
Check for amp rating on computer
    Amps times volts equals watts.
Are you running a monitor off the same inverter?
Inverter has to have proper size wire to supply advertised wattage.

Obviously you've never ran reefer. I just sat 37 hours waiting on a load to be ready. That was extraordinary, but it's not uncommon to sit 6 plus hours waiting to be unloaded. A person needs something to do so they don't go bonkers. My computer is the only thing that keeps me sane in the reefer biz.

And, my computer will not run off of any inverter that runs off of a lighter. I have a high end gaming laptop and my APU is essential to running my laptop.

Now your inverter just runs off the batteries? Truck I am buying doesn't have apu and I want to power a fridge, microwave and maybe a little heater or ac depending on time if year. 2000w enough.. they are all over Amazon for around $200-300
