Some states don't require a DOT number. See the map:
http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/registration-licensing/registration-usdot.htmDrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
Im a private Carrier and all i have on the name of my one truck is the company name and not for hire by the bottom of the door. and another thing i do have on my race trailer is Non Commercial/Non Commerce. This way im not racing or showing for money just for points and car shows for trophies..Now my other truck i run the DOT numbers and such just as my sisters truck cause we do trip lease and such...
DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
It was a truck stop in Illinois. So that makes sense. They don't require dot numbers. -
Intrastate trucks are required to have them in the state and the FMCSA regulate the interstate trucks. -

Really, you must register even though you do not move commercial goods? Nobody does down here in Texas they move hay, personal automobiles, tractors etc. All day long with all kinds of trucks and trailers. I don't look at the map but it just seems stupid all these 67,000 laws and regs. Are for "interstate commerce " if its your stuff there is no commerce so ......I don't know it just seems stupid.
I looked it up and Texas is on the list. I know before I got my numbers I pulled hay and cars my dad and I had bought with a Koidak and a 40 ft. flatbed and i was never pulled over or had anyone say anything. I never would have thought that I was in violation because it makes no sense! We have TWO Sheriffs Deputies that live on my street and one police officer plus the mayor! No one ever blinked an eye and more than one of those guys saw me fueling up and came over to see the cars and talk to me about the rods. Hell, they even asked me to pick them up some hay sometimes. Are they crooks or just private Texans!
I think our country is going crazy. During hay season HOS really! 5000 acres family owned and operated and people work before the sun comes up and many nights barn the hay until midnight! Do you really think these guys will ever care about HOS. Its just not possible. Most of these guys operate on almost nothing and have for five or six generations. Seems like a good way to force the small farmer rancher out.
I know many people want every truck that weights 52 ounces to register but at the end of the day I personally just want everybody fed.Last edited: Feb 2, 2012

He might have just purchased the truck and trailer and taking it home to get registered.
