I’m doing the same deal except I just got my authority and won’t be selling my equipment once I get moved. Mass to Nebraska. Good luck with your move! NOT for HIRE stickers all day long.

Sell the rig now to someone in VA and let them deliver your belongings :)

Thanks for all the input. It all sounds kinda sketchy in the legal sense. I'm thinking I might just put the load out there and let freight brokers bid on it. It will likely cost me about $6,000 to get it towed from CA to VA, but when I add up all my fuel, permitting, flight back to CA (to get the wife and horses) and other travel expenses, I'm probably going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of that figure. So the added expense will only be the difference between what it will cost if I do it vs letting a shipping company pull it. Am I right about this or am I way off? And do you have any broker or shipper recommendations or is that not allowed in a forum?

Smart phone App Trucker Path. Not 100 percent accurate on open or closed but you can look at history etc and get a general idea.

Sounds like just a registration and insurance are all that's needed. Probably a registered trailer too.

    No other permitting necessary.

People DO own and use as personal vehicles.

I know there's people who just bought their rig from some state and are taking it home.

I've hauled just purchased empty trailers across the country with nothing but the paperwork they were sold with. And I'm not the only one.
