what is the rush? you'll regret getting out here when you finally do. I am so thankful that I did not have to go through all that you new people do just to drive a truck. I certainly would not knowing what I now know and I am not micromanaged nor held back yet drive legally for the most part. I do eclipse the speed limit however. anyway, you will be pigeon holed and suppressed so much so that you'll more than likely ask yourself why you paid to obtain a cdl.

    best of luck future driver.

This is nonsense.. There is either an issue with this "driver" or this is just nonsense. A person has supposedly paid money for a service and has sat in a room and has done absolutely nothing for 5 weeks? Really? Unless more information comes forward from this "student"... the story is just not true.

I obtained my cdl permit before entering school. I did my classroom work and passed, I did my observation time. There was a very large class there before I came. I spoke with several of the students who said that they were pushed back a week due to bad weather. This pushed our class of 19 students back as well. Every week there's 20 plus students coming in. You have a yard full of students and two instructors on the yard and three practice trucks. Each day they random pick whose gonna be doing whatever that day. There is a flaw in the way they do things and all I need is my opportunity to get my time in so that I can get out. As I said before I didn't do my homework to see what the teacher to student ratio I was mererly going by what I read on there website. I can't think of anyone who don't want to get what they paid for. Yesterday I took a proactive step and called a friend who has his own truck and trailer who agreed to train me through this process. He went to the same school 3 yes ago and said he had the same issues. It sad to think that other people will ridicule others. This happened to me and others to. Your input is still welcomed.

Speaking from experience (my CDL class had 20+ people and some holdovers from the previous class)...there are a LOT of people that sit on the sidelines and smoke, talk, and generally do absolutely nothing while the people that want to learn are in line for backing practice. If that's not the case for the OP...he needs to get his money back. Period.

Personally...I'd go talk to the person that runs the school and politely suggest that they should give you your money back in exchange for you not filing a complaint with the BBB or whatever organization/agency gave them their operating charter/certification.

You need to get familiar with driving a truck....learn to float gears if possible. Many private schools are at a disadvantage to state sponsored schools because the states sometimes pay much of the fuel cost. You may be in a better position than the company sponsored drivers because you'll be able to work for the company you want and not be an indentured servant to that company. Almost every trucking company will train a newbie for the job they'll actually do,but you're doing yourself a favor by asking practical questions on this site.

Thanks I appreciate that. This is the most costly mistake I've ever made, I won't make it again.

From what you said it doesn't sound like they're trying to screw you, they're just short-handed. Just do your best to get actual driving experience, especially backing and maneuvering in tight spaces....once a company gets you in a truck they won't want you to stop and the money will take care of itself.

Learning the easy in and out truck stops and what to expect at different hours of the day is also far more important than the regulation bs they teach at schools. Your company safety director will be sure to let you know if you're not following the regs but they won't park the truck at Flying J for you.

My opinion still stands.. and the funniest ( or most pathetic) line on the thread was about ignoring regulations... A baboon could drive a truck if trained long enough... after a while it is the easiest part, The decision making, the laws and regulations that are hang drivers up and cost them the most in this industry. Its sad what drivers do not know about the rules and regs that govern their profession..
