I am not impressed with the trucking industry so far. DO NOT go to a company sponsored school if you can help it. There is probably only one sponsored school I recommend, and they are the hardest to get into, I won't say who, but they are in Wisconsin. Anyway, try to go to a community college that teaches trucking or a specific trucking only school (road masters, sage, etc.). Avoid company sponsored schools. If you don't have money to attend college or trucking schools, sell ur car, sell ur house, sell ur dog, sell ur cat, borrow money. Get money somewhere and attend a college course or go to sage, roadmasters, etc. I'm at one of the top 3 sponsored schools right now, and it sucks, big time.

Smarter option is to avoid the trucking industry altogether . The percentage of newbies failing is very high . The majority of CDL mill graduates are hired to replace a newbie that failed after less than 6 months .

That's the advice most here give anyway.

Maybe you should have read some posts here before you went.
Also why bother making this post if you are not willing to say who it is.

I wish every prospective student would read this! Most will not and they will get stuck in the company paid training scam. Later on they will get stuck in a company fleece or I mean lease purchase program. Think about it people, companies don't offer these programs to be nice or to benefit you! They do it because it benefits THEM and THEM only!

so your telling others not to do what your doing right now? to op and rickg
but rickg says something like this on most posts (think maybe he hopes people will listen to him which would than create a real shortage of drivers so there would be more freight to haul causing the rate of freight to go up) basic supply and demand principles not a bad ideal but will never happen sorry to burst your bubble lol as than trucking industry will lose more LH freight to trains granted a truck will still have to pick it up but would be mainly locals
but you dont want to say which one cant help but to laugh at that cause it must not be a top school than (if its not a PTDI school it is not a top school) why does it suck? are others doing better than you and they wont give you individual training? I went to a ptdi school and they taught me well class size was about 25 or so till some got weeded out than down to about 15 or so. took 4 months how long is you TOP school your ATTENDING?
that isnt entirely correct it can be benificial to the trainee as well it all comes down to what they take out of it and wether or not there actually cut out to be a trucker granted the training courses are short and dont teach you as much as they should but go into it expecting it and learn what you can on your own what they do not teach plenty of resources online for that ie youtube forums other stuff you will learn OTR and from your company driver trainer trucking is mostly a hands on learning environment but seeing how things are done by others through vids is helpful and what others say on forums like these.
not doing research and learning as much as you can about any job is failure on your part it would be like going to college and expect to know everything without buying books or studying and expect the teachers to tell you all there is to know. ignorance isnt bliss in the trucking

arent there like a million posts that suggest not going thru a company to get your training? and you are just in school and its already sucking? what the heck are you doing in SCHOOL that could be so bad... I personally went to SAGE, so I don't know what actually happpens at these sponsored places that would make it bad before you even got out of training. And whos list of "top 3" are you basing this off of?

Not trying to be a smart alack or anything...but did you do ANY research about CDL schools before you picked one......You are giving really good advice though....Community colleges are the best ...at least IMHO. Maybe someone needs to ask RickG why he has spent 35 years in a career he down-grades at every chance he gets........

rickg is realistic about the profession. it's really not the greatest in the world. and every one of us knows it.

lousy hours. sucky hometime. govt controlling our lives. disgusting truckers showering and shaving in the sinks. disgusting truckstop food. not having a toilet when needed. a criminal record becuase most companies won't keep there equipment properly maintained. disrespectful truckers in the fuel islands and parking lots. waiting in line to get your fuel receipt because the guy in front you has to go through congress just to buy fuel.

how about the significant other that cheats on you when your away. or the wife that also cheats. the breakups and divorces. the loneliness of the road. or the money we so graciously donate to various states.

what's there TO like. getting paid to see the country????

most of us don't have rich folks to become a doctor or lawyer or some other preferred profession that would pay better. some of us like the dream of doing our own thing. and trucking is as cheap and easy as it can get. minus the breakdowns.

it's also the easiest profession to get hired on. becuase, the economy sucks. and jobs are hard to find.

maybe rick is tired of his job. or maybe he's tired of the people that are out here today. i know i certainly am. but he speaks the truth.

some of us like our jobs on some days. others, no so much. but let's be realistic. there's more downside then upside to this profession.
