In many cases, that's true. Different story in tankers for new CDL grads though. Schneider has been hiring new CDL grads for tanker dispatch out of Nashville. Probably make more during Schneider's tanker training than in a factory job.
Not sure what ro do...

If you earned the vacation pay the company has to pay it out on your last check. This is the law.
If you have sick time or personal time accured you most likely lose this and it's not paid out.West TN Trucker Thanks this. -
What school are you attending and where in West TN are you located?

Yeah take your time and study all your options. Even though your ready to blow outta your current job do the right thing and give notice and work the notice out. Its never the wrong thing to do. Catch your breath and get your documentation together and then make a smart decesion when you arent rushed or under presure. Be cautious of obligating yourself to a particular company . It may be in your best interest to shop around a little before committing yourself to owing money to an employer you have never worked for. Plenty of employers are willing to help someone willing to work and you may get a better deal. Its a big decision,so take your time.

As the others have said, slow down and take your time with this. Don't make a decision on impulse just because you're so ready to be done with where you are now.
Make thr the wrong choice with a trucking company that doesn't fit you and you'll be wishing for that factory job back worse than you're wishing to be out of it now.
Make a plan, take your time and give them a notice. If you don't, when the really good driving job comes along 2-3 years down the road, quitting the job you're on now without notice probably will come back to haunt you and keep you from making some real money down the road a ways."semi" retired and West TN Trucker Thank this. -
Wow lots of help here. Thanks all of ya. Tanker is sounding better and better. I pumped a lot of fuel on the river while growing up. But something to think about is once I do quit my current job and start driving school that's when my money flow stops coming in. And the money wont start coming back in till I get to Schneiders 3 week training in which they said there gonna pay me 80 buks a day. So as of rite now im thinking about canceling mons 3 week CDL class and putting in for the next class. Put a 3 week notice in at work and use my 7 day vacation on my last week there r my first week at school. If I do go tanker what license do I need? Btw im going to a 3 week local school in dyer Tn called Drive Train. That's where I will be getting my CDLs and after that off to Scheiders 3 to 6 week school making 80 buks a day. Thanks again guys yall been a big big help.

IMO if you're in enough financial stress that 4 days of vacation pay valued at $800-1000 matters but quitting that job and going into an uncertain training program is ok, something ain't right. You need to seriously slow your roll and put your thinking cap on.
Stay where you're at and find a way to save $100 a week off a $1000 paycheck. In 4 months you will have saved enough to attend UA Newport. Less if you can save more. Add a few more months and the 3 weeks you're out will be covered too (paying the bills). FYI Maverick recruited my son right out of that school.West TN Trucker Thanks this. -
Another thing is I only bring home about 500 dollars a week rite now at my current job and 700 if im lucky and work extra overtime. And im prepared to make only 550 a week prolly before taxes at Schneider while training with my trainer. I can manage that. Car is paid off and house is paid off. Kids well im still paying them 3 off lol. oldest is 12 and youngest is 2. from age 18 to age 30 I was bringing home 1000 to 1300 a week working on the river where I did many fuel transfers btw. I learned a lot about Diesel engs as well there. my goal is to get bak to making 4 digits a week again. That was the days. Thanks again guys.

Thanks man but my thinking cap has been on for a year on this lol. Had a friend at my current job quit about 6 months ago and went to this same driving school. Some reason he started with werner after getting his CDLS but now he works for Maverick in which he says if he could do it all over again he would have started with Maverick instead of Werner. yea the school may only cost the school 2 grand and charge me 5 grand but my credit is not the best and hard to save money rite now for me since im only bringing home 5 bills a week. I had the option of paying the 5 grand out of my pocket or get a co signer but don't wanna go that route. rather sign a contract and let Schneider yote the note. I know I will be prolly treated like crap my first year but I plan to pay it off after 6 months and then revaluate my options.
