So you think I need to start school on Monday as planned even tho I dont have my SS card or my hard copy DLs and take a chance on not getting my 7 paid days vacation from current job. like I said before the local driving school im suppose to be attending tmw said come on and that my DLs and SS card can wait 2 and a half weeks into the class. that's the day I will need both documents in order to take the official CDL test. Around here it takes 7 days to get a hard copy Of DLs which I already took care that last Friday. Ok then after they come in hopefully early are least 7 days as promised by Nashville then I go get SS card in which I lost cant find that sucker nowhere. Ok that takes about 1 and a half weeks. As you see im in a very very tight window here. Best thing that could happen is I get lucky and obtain both documents before r on CDL test day. Worst thing that could happen is I don't get both documents in time and watch my class graduate and me sent home till I obtain the needed documents. Keep in mind I done ordered the DLs once already 40 days ago and they never showed up and never got returned to sender....And I burn the bridge with my current job that I really don't have no plans in the future returning to it unless im really desperate or something happens I have a problem getting a trucking job after I get CDLs for some reason like I may have had to many speeding tickets in last 5 years r something like that. Mr Chinatown do you still say start school Monday as planned and possibly throw that 1 grand paid vacation in trash can and burn that bridge with my current job? And pray every night that I get them 2 docs before CDL test day and pray that im even qualified to be a trucker? If you say do it I will prolly do it just say the word. Im not a gambling man r like to take chances but.....

Also, if you don't see that $$ which is owed you, then you file a complaint with the states department of labor to get it, from them.

Do the right thing and give two weeks notice, if only to avoid burning a bridge, if at all possible. Don't give anyone a reason to give you a bad name.

Get paid what you are owed, and bank two more paychecks - it might be a while before you see another one.

Lots of things seem to have a way of not working out for one reason or another, so be prepared with plan b, c and d. Just in case.

If it sounds too good to be true, ask again. Just to be sure you're not kidding yourself.

No, go ahead and get the vacation pay and delay the CDL school for 3 weeks.
If you go with Schneider, make sure they understand you want tanker division.
If they give you any vague answers about tanker division, tell them you will keep looking.
I'm a big risk taker and do it naturally, but, shouldn't advise others to do the same. Against everyone's advice, I bought rental property in a Communist country and proved all the naysayers wrong. That doesn't mean everyone should do it though.

Study the "CDL Practice Tests" at the top of this page. You will need tanker/hazmat endorsements, TWIC and a passport for the best tanker jobs. You may already have TWIC having been a Merchant Seaman, but if not, Google for nearest TWIC office to apply for this. Tanker drivers hauling chemicals, need TWIC for entry to seaports, chemical plants, some military bases.

You mentioned Freeport, TX. I've hauled many loads of chemicals to Freeport, TX and you probably will also if you decide to go into tankers.

Sorry, I didn't read this part more closely. If you have any speeding tickets, you shouldn't be quitting any job until you have everything lined up first, including your dot motor vehicle record and medical certificate evaluation.

People get sent home from school all the time, you don't want to be one of them.

If you decide to not go to Schneider tankers, there's some good companies to research for good pay. With family you need good pay.

Check these & start the applications at least the first day of CDL classes. Submit online applications:

Tyson Foods - good pay and benefits
    Tidewater Transit
    Superior Carriers
    Trimac
    SVTN
    TMC
    Maverick flatbed

Easy to get around. Request vacation pay(forget getting the time off), get it in hand, give notice, move on.

Poor guy, his head is still probably spinning. Take all the advice here and make a decision. On a site like this, you are going to get all kinds of responses. I would have killed for a site like this back in the day, as many times I took a job and found out shortly after it sucked. Remember, no one is going to hold your hand on this, you have to make the decision. You seem like a cool guy, and have been around, you are on the right track. My last bit of advice, again, give a notice, don't leave anyone hanging.
