Patti,
Just would like to add some advice for heading down long hills.
First, put it in a gear that is lower than the gear you went up the hill in. If driving an automatic, you typically use "D" for going up the hill then use "3" or "2" for going down (whichever is the next selection under "D"). Pick a target speed that you find safe. Let's say 55mph for example. Apply the brakes until you are about 5mph slower (50mph) than your target speed and then let off of them. Allow the truck to pick up speed on it's own (by gravity) and then hit the brakes again until you are 5 under. Repeat this until you reach the end of the hill and you should have no problem with the brakes getting too hot and fading.
Hope this helps.
