Oh, that is quick. we studied three or four days.

we used this site for practice tests. If you want to learn the correct answers first, instead of being confused by all the wrong answers and multiple choice format, immediately scroll down and click "score". It will say 0% but will highlight the correct answers.

THere is another good one, even more detailed, but I can not recall the URL.

It is best to be 100% on these pretests before taking the real one.

A few answers on the Crist tests are wrong/outdated.

Of all the online practice tests I took when I was prepping I thought the ones on CRST's website were the most helpful... regardless of what you may think of the Crash & Roll Stunt Team.

Just a small update on whats been happening on my quest. I got a job at a gas station down the road from the house. It doesn't pay the greatest but, as long as I can keep my wife from thinking she needs a new wardrobe, it will be enough. I should be able to pay any outstanding bills and start saving for school and anything else I need for the new career. I also have been working on my health because I know it can be a little tough adjusting to the new lifestyle that comes with this new career. I have cut out almost all sugar, try to out work everyone else that works with me and try to get more active with the kids. I have gained a good amount of stamina and lost 20 lbs. I feel better and get more and more goals reached everyday. I hope to lose 40 more pounds by the time I start cdl training. If everything goes close to plan I should be starting school in the next few months.

Wow, it is hard to believe that it has been over a year since the last post on this thread. So, I guess I will bring it current. I quit the gas station job after a few months and got a job that paid a little better so that I could save money to pay for school myself. I now have enough and I am going to call today and see when the next open class starts. It has been a long road getting here but, it has made me realize that I really want to do this.

It's good to here that you are getting the chance to do what you want to in life. We should compare truck driving school and experiences here. I have wanted to drive for quite a while but the first attempt to get into the field didn't work out. That was back in 1996 and I was 3 years into a marriage with 2 toddlers to help raise so I waited. Now I'm recently divorced and have 1 kid in college and the other is a senior in high school. I've worked the last 11 years as a corrections officer for the state of missouri and finally couldn't take it anymore. Low pay and dead end job led me to reevalute my life and start over. I gave up almost everything in the divorce and figure its now or never. I couldn't afford the $5k that the local school wanted and didn't want the government paying for my schooling so I signed on with the cdl mill. I start c1 Monday and will be going with a national carrier. I figure I'll put in the year and if I don't like it then I'll take the experience and go local or with a better company. It would be interesting to compare experiences as to using the mill or going it on your own. I was told by everyone run from the mill. it will be the biggest mistake of your life but I figure its a decent deal. I get three weeks to learn and get shoved in the truck with a trainer. I then go to earning and learning. It's an adventure. I don't know about you but I'm nervous and excited at the same time. I wish you the best and I'll see you out there on the road.

    Maddog4406 Thanks this.

    Congratulations!

Do you have a little extra saved, on top of tuition for school?

When on a trainer's truck there is not much room for the trainee's supplies. Not a lot of room for bringing food means you will have to eat at truck stops etc... Maybe $10-12 in quarters for washing clothes will get you maybe three loads.

Take a look at the "what to bring" thread on top of page one.

    Good luck!

I have also read here to stay away from the cdl mills. I believe the mill will get the job done. With you being in the corrections system for as long as you have I think you will be able to handle it very well. I will keep this updated as I go and I look forward to reading your adventure here as well. Keep me posted.

I do have extra savings for the time I'm in school and while I'm training. I also will be able to borrow money if necessary. I really can't believe that I am finally able to get this started I am just waiting for the call from the school to tell me what hoops I have to jump through and I will be on my way.

Other hiccups in getting hired from school, has your employment been steady for many years? Not necessarily just one job, but that you kept working. Not five jobs in one year... etc.

Do you have the clean driving and personal record (arrests, felonies) that employer's want in new hires.

I was an ideal candidate. No arrests.

After all this excitement you will be sorely disappointed when you get out into the trucking world
