Assuming all of the step bolts come out and don't seize and strip after not having been taken off for 8 years.. wish me luck

Well, in that case at least they'll win against the crappy Harbor Freight socket set I'm about to buy, lol

How old is your truck? Mine is 2018 and I’ve got it replaced under warranty.

Mine's a secondhand 2016 with like 800k miles, i don't think there's been anything even even remotely warranty-like for years.

Also the warranty repair for cheap parts is a mixed bag - save $300, but spend 4 days waiting in a stupid freightliner shop

not all trucks have 5year/500k miles warranty. plus downtime is money and for that sensor i would not go to dealer to replace it under warranty

You were right, the steps came right off. Now I'm waiting for the exhaust box to cool off a bit so I can try taking off the sensor.

(I'm sorta doing a dry run in a harbor freight parking lot. Making sure everything comes off and I have all the right tools, so I can go to a freightliner next and do a F1 style 5 minute pit stop there - take off old, buy new with core discount, throw it on and go. Instead of bumbling with rusty bolts and begging them for tools)

If it is emissions related, then it is typically 5 years. So as a MY16 vehicle, just missed it.

If taking off the old sensor, I would BLAST that thing with PB Blaster, too. I've seen horror stories where these things ended up welding/rusting itself to the 1-box.

I'm letting it soak in wd40 for now. Don't know what pb blaster is.

PB Blaster is just a very nice penetrant oil that I've seem to have fairly good luck with these sorts of jobs. But you're soaking it in WD40. So that should help, too.
