Is it just me or does it seem like the inspection stations are open all the time right now?

Im running locally out of Syracuse, NY so I’m up and down I-81 and I-90 everyday.

seems like they are open either in Preble, Watertown, Lafayette/Tully and other areas.

And then the constant rouge state troopers constantly pulling drivers in right before they get on the thruway, and the random roadside inspections. Passed multiple roadside inspections. This is getting ridiculous.

I run tractors and straight trucks. I’ve been inspected more in a straight truck than a tractor.

Is this happening in other states or only NY right now? I’m sure it’s going on elsewhere but it’s ridiculous.

How long have you been running NY? That has been a regular occurance for years, especially in that corridor.

That said, it is spring law enforcement academy time and the 81/17/86 corridor is their new graduate training grounds so you may be seeing the effects of them training the next group of inspectors.

When I ran that area regularly it was normal for them to have multiple locations open nearly 24 hours a day, even weekends and holidays.

    bzinger and TugHillRider Thank this.

Straights meet their quotas and are fast and easy to do so of course you will get inspected more.

The New Hampshire DOT cops go after the hot shots and straight trucks because they are easier, less axles etc to look at.

And, at least in my experience, a lot more likely to have a violation.

I’ve been driving it for roughly 3 years. Maybe I haven’t paid much attention

As much as I have ever run in NY, I have never had a problem, although I quickly realized years ago, these NY DOT troopers are "all business", they do not have a sense of humor. The times I have been inspected in NY, I meet the troopers on their "terms". I never speak unless spoken to, their requests come to me as "commands" and I obey.

I’ve had one that had a sense of humor. He was a very nice guy.

All of the other guys didn’t have a sense of humor but they were polite and professional.
