I wouldn't bother with satellite tv . A lot of tv shows are available on the internet . Get a laptop with an aircard . I do know drivers that have Dish TV at home . For $5 a month you can get a receiver for the truck biled to your home account but you'll need an antenna . If you subscribe to Netflix you can get unlimited free online movies .

Geez! Just change the subject why don't you?

When i first became an otr driver, the home terminal was about three hours away from the house. They told me to bob tail home and spend a few days getting ready.
I had a cb at home, that i was planning on using in the big truck. But, I didn't get a hour away from the terminal before i stopped and bought another one. Many years ago, I bought a Cobra 29ltd for $69.99 at a truck stop. But then I bought a Cobra 29ltd with the night watch, and sound tracker features for $129.00. I like having a cb for traffic reports, providing and receiving directions, and alerts to truck or trailer problems that drivers cannot see in their mirrors.
As far as coolers, and tv's go, DON'T buy them at truckstops. A Coleman 12v cooler will easily cost you over $100 in a truck stop. I bought mine at Walmart for $69 And it came with an ac/cd converter, in case you wanted to use it at home, or in a hotel. Bought it in 2001, and it still works!
The tv situation is questionable because of the digital switch coming next year. I guess you could get one of those converter boxes, but they plug into 110v ac. I got a tv/vcr combo. Problem with that is, the vcr messed up, and I haven't gotten it fixed. But, I got a portable dvd player that plugs into the tv, and a 12v receptacle.
Of course, I'm sure they probably have ac/dc portable DIGITAL tv/dvd players out there. The company I drove for, prohibited large inverters. I had a 400w that I used occasionally. I didn't go the satellite way, because I never had a enough time to watch tv, to justify the setup/take down of the dish.
