This is a exactly what I did. Progressive insures me. It’s a little high, because I’m risking having zero experience, but I have insurance ♂️ I’m six months into flatbeding now

Well I had to get Progressive when I started and price did drop after the first year. Going into my 3rd yr they increased my rate , no accidents no claims . Currently shopping around and have already received some good rates , holding off for a couple more quotes.
HopeOverMope Thanks this. -
I had something like that happen to me. When I stared out I used a local agent that used auto owners. I had several years military experience and only a few months driving for Speedy. They gave me a way better rate then Progressive but not as good as it could have been.
The first, second, and third year my rates did not drop. Then my agents calls me, after the policy is up they will not renew it. Auto owners wanted to raise my rates almost 25% for nothing. -
Great answer. I’m looking to purchase my truck and obtain my cdl first of course. If I get my motor carrier which insurance should I get? I have no experience either and will get my cdl’s by self study. What route should I take? You could inbox me on Facebook under Chad Glover from statesville,NC if you’d like.

I hope you have family or friends in the trucking industry that will be helping you get started. You don’t even have a CDL yet, but are going right in to being an Owner Op. I don’t mean to sound negative or crass but you gotta crawl before you walk, and walk before you run. You are talking about a big investment. Truckn is a lot more than getting a CDL and truck and going to work. Again I don’t know your situation. You might have grown up around truckn, but it doesn’t sound like it. Sorry for rambling. Answer to your question. Get CDL. Try to find small company or O/O willing to teach you the ropes of the business. Evaluate to see if you even like truckn. If after a couple years you do like it, then buy a truck and trailer, get your own authority and go at it. I was lucky. I grew on a farm, which in turn put me around truckn. When I decided to make truckn my career I eventually started working for an O/O who taught me how to run the business. He even started letting me book my own loads with his truck. His knowledge let me feel comfortable about buying my own. Been at it for 12 years and it’s been good. Good luck to you.

Everything this man says is true. Getting a CDL only gets you in the door to learning about trucking. No school can dial you in to the reality of life as a truck driver. This job runs you through the wringer backwards and will eat up most folks in short order.LoJackDatHo Thanks this.

I’m about to do the same, purchase a truck, get insured with no experience. How do you go about getting loads? Which load boards and will they except no experience or is it even mentioned.
-
Insurance is screwing me because of credit score but what trucker has a 700 plus! And I have no experience, truck is paid off just ridiculous. I knew what I was getting into but 50k a year is extortion.
