I went to a dead hole in FL a couple weeks back, but I had a load sitting down there waiting for me....

So it wasn't really a hole.

What sucks is I had $3.90 lined up going in but had to catch and release it because the dates changed after I had the rate con...

I got stuck because of dates.

Left me scrambling trying to get INTO FL....

    Go figure.

Let me add, I'd be looking at those rates while waiting for better ones....

I'd be biding my time and waiting for the right load....

And of course the day of the week would be a primary consideration, if it was Mon I'd be tempted to jump on something Mon and move to a similar market for Tue...sometimes I'll just wait until late in the day, it's not a science, but a hunch... I look at the boards a lot when I'm not even looking for a load, just to get an idea of what my strategy will be when I'm in the area...

The advantage I have with the new outfit is customer freight emails.

    Customer freight is gold.

Bottom line, unless this type of a load is an "emergency" type of load, no one here who truly knows what their services are worth will be hauling this load. Most likely going on someone's truck who really doesn't understand business. I could be wrong but I doubt it. You'd be better served financially nearly all the time focusing on shorter hops with a van than any long haul.

There are exceptions to that statement, however.

I think he means your motor carrier number. It could show that you are a new company.
Maybe the broker would try to get you to haul it cheap.

    Hi Ridgeline,

I Just obtained my authority and I see you do well on short runs. Is their any way you can give me tips on where to get something similar? Im not asking you to give up customers or anything, just some solid advice. I live in ohio with a dry van.

    thanks
    Dustin
