I’ve only had my authority for 2 months, so my leverage in the negotiations is not to strong. That being said once i hit the highways im getting $3.25/mile the majority of the time and been as high as $6 a few times. My best pay per mile is usually on the DFW metroplex or Houston, there im getting on the low end $10 per mile. Any thoughts how to increase the numbers beside just waiting for my authority to age a little more??

What type of freight are you hauling?

How many miles are you getting these rates for?

Are you doing one run from DFW to Houston or doing a round trip?

How much are you grossing in a day?

I haul a little bit of everything, I use the dat board. I try to keep my load under 30k going from Dallas to Houston.

My typical loads look like this ( actual amounts from past week).
65 miles Saginaw to Sanger $700
My load right now Irving to seally 260 miles 900.
Nothing is round trip all spot rates for the day, I make a lot of calls. I gross anywhere from $1200-$1700 a day, just depends on local runs for the day.

I forgot to mention I try to get 2 local trips in the morning and 1 for the trip to Houston/Dallas at night. Again depends on unload/load times

U have to learn your lanes, what pays what to where and when and use that to your advantage.
Either seek advice from somebody who’s been running the same lanes or just give it time and you’ll figure that out on your own hopefully before you go broke.

I’m not in danger of going broke, after everything is paid I’ve netted 25 k in 2 months. Just looking for advice on how to maximize profits: best brokers , which lanes etc.

Don't concentrate on rate per mile, rather on daily gross revenue. It's better to do $1500 on 500 miles, vs $750 on 150 miles.

Tgats part of why a previous guy asked what kinda freight. I assume youre not doing flatbed of any kind with 3 loads a day + some miles (thats really what the guy was asking, van vs tank vs flat matters when asking for maximization advice)

You're doing pretty good. We're around the same as you for daily avg, local also.

Our minimum has been 1250 for anything the past year, with a few exceptions for really short hauls
