Obtaining exact dates on previous work history

I wound up going through old tax records to get the dates for many of my jobs. for some positions an educated guess is not good enough. they use a third party to verify your employment. all they give is yes or no if your info is correct or not.
basically if you have it wrong they call the perspecive employer and say they could not verify your employment.
