800,000 miles on a truck? Sounds like a brand new truck to me. Almost all the trucks at my place are 2mil+ miles unless you've been there forever. Place sounds great though. I sent my resume a couple days ago and they told me to come fill out application. I got that done today, so hopefully I hear back from them. I was extremely impressed with the place. It was everything my current job isn't.

Pick up & delivery. They will take a trailer out and do deliveries to customers, then do pick ups later on. Just the general idea... There's more to it than that.

Driving jobs will vary by terminal. Most terminals bid, some smaller ones do not. It makes sense that the smaller ones hire less frequently and are harder to join than the larger ones. I work at a larger terminal, but we have been going through a growth spurt over the past few years and hiring often. I'm linehaul and only had to be a wild bag driver for 2 months after I was hired. I landed a bid run after 5 months of hire. It all depends on your terminal, how often they hire, and how quickly you can move up in seniority. I moved up almost 40 spots in a little over 1 year - that's pretty drastic. We had some drivers retire.

Some larger terminals have drivers that have to run wild for a year or more, because they have so many drivers and it's tough to move up in seniority. So, it's pretty terminal specific as far as how long it takes to gain seniority.

If you are on the xtra board when first hired, is dock work mandatory or optional?

Anyone out in the Chesapeake or VA area??

I'm here at Tidewater community college going through their CDL school and graduate with my permit next month...

OD is the only place I want to work for in this area...

On the website it only has the email, anyone had any luck going in in-person?
