Rocknroll- not to be rude but I have already said I have the antenna tuned. The swr is vertually zero on channel 1 and is less then half on channel 40. I do not need to have a shop redue/check what I have already done.
Wa4- I might should do that but the radio is less then 30 days old and if I let someone open upthe radio it might void the warrenty. I guess I need to call cobra and see what the suggest, I wanted to see if I was missing something first. Thank you -
SEND IT TO COBRA !
See if you need a RMA with ICOM here at our shop we have to do that -
Sounds like something in that switch is shorting out. A defect for sure
-
Fallen- don't see how it could be a ground problem the swr are perfict. Don't see how could be mic problem like I said it talks out good. It might be a switch problem like you say.
Flying. I think you might be right.
I just got off phone with cobra said it sounded like a radio problem and to return it for a new one. I appreciate the help. -
Let us know how it works out !

I just now got in from a field trip at a repeater site and read this whole thread. Sounds like two things are goofy; one will be determined by Cobra, but it sounds like something is fouled in the wiring to the meter function switch.
Also, unless you've got a loading coil somewhere after the coax terminates at the antenna, there's no way a 4.5 ft steel whip should be able to be made to be resonant on CB frequencies. It's closer to 6 Meters, which is an even harmonic of the CB freqs, and the impedance should be horrendous.
I'll be in the line of folks waiting to hear what Cobra says. At least it'll be more satisfying than just swapping it out at the dealer, cuz then we'd never know what was going on.
The mind boggles!

P.S. Nice thing about Icom is that it doesn't often have to go back

We have 1500+ we matain here they are all over 5 years old in a JAIL so they get abused ... Many have NEVER been through the shop MOST that have are for mike jack failures ..... about 40 out of 1500 over 5 years.
These are F43's the F4's did as well when we retired them with 11 years service 90% were still working ...... Not bad for a $400 HT ....... -
Well you are talking way over my head, I did not understand any of that. Lol. Anyhow the cover customer service told me to exchange it where I bought it so I will not ever know what the problem was.

Many new radios are not easy to fix so they swap them out ......
