I have a o7 vnl with a d12. I have had it for two years and it has never gotten any type of coolant in the drivers side of the plastic fill area that I am assuming is a over flow. recently I was pulling a hill in Colorado and ran a little warm and it still stayed bone dry. it has hoses hooked up to it. is this normal?

Yes. It's there to capture overflow in an overheat situation. If your truck is running normal, it will never have coolant on the driver's side of the tank.

silver dollar and damil Thank this.

Mudman78 Is right the only reason you are going to have any coolant in the driver side is excessive overhear or the other way is if there is excessive pressure in the cooling system at which point it will fill it up and start pissing it out of the overflow it's never good news to have coolant on the driver side so your truck is just fine

I had the same issue of overflow.. specially after running for a while the coolant drains through overflow pipe and there is coolant on the driver side of the reservoir.. Engine doesn't get overheat, even in hills..
Any Solution to this please ::

Nothing will overflow if your low on coolant in the radiator. You need to fill the radiator first. Probably why your running warm. You can't fill your radiator from the overflow tank once it's low

Coolant will go to the driver's side of the tank for two reasons:

    1) Overheat
    2) Bad air compressor head gasket causing the air compressor to overpressurize the cooling system.

Couldn't say. Our trucks are 9 years old and have anywhere from 500,000 to 700,000 miles. We have 50 of them. It's to the point that it's not worth doing just the head gaskets (even though it can be done). We replace the whole compressor. I would suggest a proper diagnosis before just slapping a compressor in it.
