    I don’t think I’ve had a refused load.

I was working road construction a few years ago on a state job. The state inspector sent several loads of class 2 rip rap back to the rock yard because it wasn't gray enough. The rock had a natural sand stone vein running through it but was about 80% limestone. We ended up having to have some shipped in straight from the quarry about 200 miles upstate.

Pallet of bicycle tires stacked 6' high. Picked up a Goodyear distribution, deliver to a bicycle shop. 100% no touch load. I did not touch the load, did not secure it, I didn't even get to put my own padlock on the door(Goodyear used my padlock.)

Upon delivery, open her up. Customer wants to inspect the pallets to make sure everything was there. One of the boxes has been crushed, probably from the factory. Entire load rejected. Had to take it back to the distribution at no extra pay.

Believe me, if Goodyear didn't have me bring it all back-13 pallets in total if I remember correctly- I'd have gotten very friendly with everyone who owns a bicycle in town. "$5 a tire just get them off my teuck"

Sunday I was called in to deliver 2 stores, 2 full 30 pallet loads to each store, Redondo and Torrance, both are driver unload and reload returns, pallets, cardboard bails, etc.. So I went in at 16:00 hours had both delivered and back in the yard by 20:00, copying and turning in paperwork for payroll. Dispatcher comes up and tells me he wants me to deliver West Hollywood for him, I tell him no Im done and going home. He should have told me about this extra store on the call out not now that I'm ready to leave. He turns this in as not finishing my shift.
When my driver manager called me and ask, I remind them that I am a Arizona driver short line not a local driver, and the stores I delivered were a favor to start with. Also invited them either one to do a working ride along. both declined. Reminded them that the local drivers take 9 hours to do the stores I delivered in 4 hours.
Already scheduled to go back to ny Arizona runs. I do not think either knows how hard you have to hustle to deliver both of these in 4 hours.

Right or wrong to turn down extra load ?

Your leaving for the day. Turn it down.
One of the main reasons I left my last job was they loved to try and pressure me into running an extra load. Problem is, they would wait to tell me until I got back to the yard, dropped trailer, fueled, posted, etc. I basically had to pond in their head by continually refusing, but my cutoff was if I'm on my way back to the yard, I'm going home. They knew about the load all day, there is no reason for them to wait until after I call my wife with an eta to try and drop a load on me.
