I see said the blind man.. Misunderstood

However I am now wondering if you're trying to find something wrong when there wasn't to begin with.

How much is this sleep machine and who will pay for it ?

Geeze, I've never heard of anything quite like this before. Seriously. I believe, if it was me, I'd start with my trusted family physician, get a complete work up, and then be guided by what he tells me. He will likely know a doctor, (one that is reputable,) that can help you out.

The only other thing I can think of, and I hate to even bring this up here, is that it could be psychological. No, I don't think you are nuts. (But then I don't really know you either. . .):D
Are you claustrophobic? I am, (I mean seriously claustrophobic, I found out that there is no way I can wear an SCBA, back when I was a volunteer fireman. . .) and I really figured I'd have a hard time in getting used to the mask. However, I did not have a problem with it. Could be because I was so exhausted when it was first fitted to me, that I could have slept through a nuclear attack!

The only other thing I can think of is that perhaps the mask you are using is just not suited to you. There are several different types of mask, from full face to nasal.

I hope you can find some answer to this, and if you do, I would personally really appreciate it, if you would post it!

Go in to your dr and ask for a sleep study from the place they use. Don't tell them you have the cpap just tell them you drive truck and need the study. See what the results are my (non dr) thoughts are you do not have it. I am also sni and know exactly what you are saying.

Sad when you can't trust a doctor to give an honest diagnosis...motivated by money rather than what's best for the patient. These company sponsored "sleep studies" are turning the hippocratic oath into the hypocritical oath...

Thanks for the replies. I don't care what Packrat says about you all! :D

@dca : you aren't wrong, but I don't know that you're not right either. When I was given the test I had no symptoms and my only marker was bmi. (No joke. Neck size was even fine.) So it's possible that I'm on a wild goose chase, sure. But if I can prove that ppd is full of #### OR if I do find out that it's something else, at least I'm educated in my health.

@Big Don : my mother was the same way. She essentially told me to suck it up and deal with it because I was being a baby and not wanting to get treated. She's since done some research and found out that people with light osa actually have a much harder time adjusting. But when I say she was the same way...well...she sleeps like a rock now, but was banned from all national and state parks because of the fact that her snore scared away all wildlife in a 50 mile radius and all trees in a 35 mile radius! Since sleep apnea can be somewhat hereditary, I'm willing to give it a shot for treatment.

@tazman74 : I will most definitely post for us in the mega fleets. It isn't just sni and while it's a real thing to have, being over treated is NOT a good thing. Plus, in my case if I were to have an accident nobody would bat an eye at that machine or any underlying conditions. Yet if I wasn't using it at all...well we know that story.

@Pedigreed Bulldog : yep. When I worked in pharm I saw this quite a bit. There were doctors who hated it when I called them because I wasn't afraid to explain how their kickback from the medicine company really got paid for. Its insane that even those who are supposed to do no harm, sometimes do the most. I suppose we are all human, but it is the reason I'm so educated about my own health as well as understanding the treatments, illnesses and more that we have today.

I will absolutely keep everyone posted...it's a hot topic among us and has been dubbed the new lease purchase scam.

Maybe your machine's pressure setting isn't right. I'd check with a second doctor, or at the very least, go back to where you had your sleep study done and ask them to do it over at no charge.

They checked that, it's one of the "posterchild" things. According to them, the machine is working perfect and the therapy doesn't need to be changed.

(I'm not so foolish as to believe everything they say mind you, but lying about the effectiveness of the treatment is an automatic lawsuit. Even they aren't so stupid as to do that.)

I have used a cpap machine for yrs. in the over all scope I felt better using it. May I suggest you try a different mask ? I recently switched from a full face mask to a nasal pillow style and it works so much better. My Resperonics machine also has a C-Flex setting that works better for me than the therapy mode. Keep the filters clean and get it calibrated. My supplier has clinics a couple times a yr when factory techs perform "tune ups".
If you are truly having chest pains then follow up with a visit to your fam doctor. I get a blood panel test once s years that provides a reference for many problems. There are approx 40 different things that may be indicators of other problems.liver, kidney, heart, psa, creating, all the chloresterol types and mineral levels, vitamin deficiencies etc. best $150 I ever spent.
    Good luck driver.

7-12 cm seems pretty high for a mild apnea diagnosis.

I'm no diagnostician, but my severe obstructive apnea plus low oxygen level .... got me an initial setting of FIVE.

Keep in mind that at 5, it wasn't enough oxygen to fill my lungs and I wanted more air, so I had to either 1) make another appt to discuss changing it or 2) look on the internet for the PDF of my machine's operating manual. Guess which one I chose.

I now sleep at a 7-8 (mostly an eight) but I find it's so much pressure that it blows fluid into my ear canals and makes a crackling sound during the day. Another person here said his air pressure had blown out his tear ducts in his eyes and they needed to put tubes in there or something. Sooo.....Have you considered, in the case that you actually do have some apnea or obstructions or low oxygen (hypopnea), that the number is too high???

Smoking could be a heartburn culprit (smoking gave me hella heartburn - it's now gone now that I don't smoke and comes back immediately if I slip).

Keep asking the questions.. you need that REM sleep.
