Hey all, new here, nice to meet everyone. So I picked up a Cobra 200 gtl dx for one of my vehicles. It came in the original box, the previous owner said he had it tuned and aligned but hardly used it. The radio is in excellent cosmetic condition. So here's the issue...On AM in low power mode my SWR high (4:0) but if I put it in high power mode I have a #### near perfect match (1:1) across the board. On SSB I have a great match on high or low power doesn't matter. I know these radios are prone to issues, but this issue is outside of the normal scope I think. I have gotten great reports form all over on SSB and AM on high power, everyone I contact says the radio sounds great! I'd like to talk local on AM low power, but not with that high of an SWR reading. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!
first internal then tried to adjust with an Astatic PDC7 SWR Meter. Didn't make a difference. I don't have this issue with my other radios. Lol, never seen an issue like this before. Thanks for responding.
I've had this same problem years ago, but it was because I was using a through the glass antenna. My first thought when you said the previous owner had the radio worked on and then sold it, maybe this is why? It would be interesting to test this radio on a bench into a dummy load just to see what is going on. I did find this fellow having a similar problem. Quote: This is a very usual problem in this radio. For example:If your radio has the peak Mod when you push the power switch at the Hi power position, the RF meter in the radio shows the RMS power, not the PEP power and the radio shows an incorrect SWR readings. But in the Lo power position, the RF and the SWR meter works correct. End quote. I don't know if this radio you have, had the peak mod done or not, but it maybe a place to start.
