Can one of the moderators please explain the rule that you have to have 50 post to send private messages. It seems pretty jacked up to me but, who am I to complain.
If I can't send them before 50 post than why can I receive them? I can't respond back when I do get one.:biggrin_25512:

It is a way of keeping spammers off the site. A spammer will not stick around for 50 post.

Just as we can blame the lawyers for all the messed up rules and regulations, we can blame the spammers for ruining our fun little internet forum. Hang in there, 50 will come quicker than you can guess.

This made me curious too, although I do understand completely. Has the board owner/admins ever considered goint private? One way to get rid of spammers is to have a private board, admission only by approval, and gradual entry into forums even. Although spammers can still sneak in, they could be reported immediately and membership removed.

Just curious, although I'm sure you probably have had this discussion a dozen times before I came along. :biggrin_25525:

This is by far the most active spam free board I have ever seen. Spammers don't last here!:biggrin_25514: You got the 4 thumbs up monkey approval!:biggrin_25523:

I can imagine that they have thought about it, but just like with the companies, turnover is pretty high and new folks are coming all the time. Having an open membership has it's benefits that it allows new folks to join (like me) and ask questions.

It would be a HUGE amount of work to have to approve all new registrations, especially with the speculators, students and wannabes.

This is a forum with over 10,000 members. Membership approval for this site would take all of the Moderaters time, and would definately slow down the registration process. It might take DAYS for registration to get approved if they had to do that.

Fifty posts usually keeps the spammers off the board, though there are times when Mods have to catch and delete them anyways.

This is the way that they have found that works best, though it seems to annoy some. But I would rather the minor annoyance of not being able to send a PM as compared to all the BS of the spammers, recruiters, etc that visit this site on a daily basis!

Some Sites you can post a question and a month later no one has seen it. Here you hit submit and there is 3 responses already.:biggrin_2559: Might be two wrongs and then the monkey's reply, but hey!:biggrin_2559:

I just hit my 50 today and though I was sometimes impatient to get to send PMs, I understand and concur with the rule. I was a mod on another board for years and I greatly appreciate the difficult and often thankless job that mods do. I also was an admin for a board that a non-profit org started. The spam registrations to real ones ran about 60 to 1. We ended up closing the forum because dealing with them just took too much time.

Here's to the Truckers Report mod team! :occasion5: Y'all do a great job. :biggrin_25514:
