First and foremost, there's no government spy watching you with binoculars from his black helicopter to see if you're in the sleeper, in the passenger seat, on the floor doing exercises, or outside jogging around the truck. People who split hairs over silly crap like this really annoy me... even moreso when it's a "trainer".
Same idea goes whether you're at a truckstop, the shipper, or just waiting somewhere for whatever reason. Use common sense, and you'll be fine.

Then you need to plug it into your USB port and do a system update... because mine works fine. I have version 5.0.
Southpaw7391, American-Trucker and lostNfound Thank this. -
Last time I did that I plugged into the wrong thing, #### my pants and forgot the '70s.
Oh, wait... that was for a different reason.Last edited: Jul 12, 2011
Panhandle flash, trucker_101 and Onetruckpony Thank this. -
Going from off duty to Driving is different than being off duty and running inside to eat or take a leak.
The log needs to be current to your last change of duty status, you go off duty for X hours so you are off duty. When your status changes back to on duty you can show all your flags in case the waitress is really an undercover DOT spy.
You are putting too much thought into it.
Just because your paranoid does not mean they arent out to get you.KD5AXG, Panhandle flash and I am medicineman Thank this. -
You leave that truckstop, get in an accident and kill somebody................
you're gonna think they were watching you from helicopters !!!!!
Video cameras are everywhere nowadays.
If your log said anything different than what a camera shows, you ARE screwed !!!
true story, ............ -
OMG !!!
Can we get any more ridiculous about the HOS and what may or may not be a "violation".
If you are logging when you get out of sleeper to go pee, then you are seriosly OCD or just plain "ignert".
Also, all the book requires is a "break".
Your physical location in the truck means diddly squat.
He would have to get a grass green rookie LEO to receive ANY kind of flak about sitting in the seat while on his 10.
And as to the "safety men" at the various companies....... They usually know less about the subject than anyone.
I have had MANY, and every one was prone to invent stupidity at a moments notice.
What would I do if my truck got hit and I was inside the TS but logged "sleeper"... ???
Go "on duty". Call for LEO. Call company. Take pictures. Etc...
Just like I would at any other time. -
I'm gonna flag my log with "pee break" every time I have to get out of truck this week just to see the reaction from our log department.
I bet I get a call wondering "WTF?" within 36 hours.
(and likely a drug test)KD5AXG Thanks this. -
There's rules and there is reality. The purpose of HOS is to make sure you are not driving too much and getting your break in. They could care less if you are bouncing around between line 1 and 2.
If someone hits me while I'm on break, the law is just going to fill out a report. The one doing the hitting if anything is the one that will be under fire if there is a fatality or something.
Also I can't remember an orientation where the safety man didn't make the comment of being in the driver seat, you are on duty. That's poopycock. Many drivers relax in the drivers seat. It's part of your little jail cell. I'd hate to have to cut it in half just because of being paranoid.
I have never heard of anyone getting in trouble over this threads topic. It's knit picking.KD5AXG Thanks this. -
That is the best phrase I have ever read in my life. May I have your permission to use that numerous times on a daily basis? I am sitting at a grocery warehouse and feel the need to go inside and throw that word around.
KD5AXG Thanks this.
