Hello,
I'm new to this forum and I hope to do a lot of contributing.
I am a Fl. CDL A holder. I used to run for Millis out of Wisconsin. My last year driving was 2008. But, most of my exp. was in 2004-2005. Long story but I had a lot of family stuff to deal with in those years. (death,Divorce...the typical sad stuff) Because of these things, trucking was not my priority, even though I have loved it since I was a kid. (My father drove big rigs all his life)
Anyhow, I have a total of about a year and a half of driving for Millis, all Dry Van. When I worked ..I worked! I was never out for less then 6 weeks and as long as 17 without a break. I enjoyed running hard because for some strange reason...it really never felt like it was hard. I loved being out on the road so much....the wife decided she didn't need me all that much. (LOL No sympathy guys...She did me a favor)
I don't want this post to turn into a book so I'll get to it.
I live in Ft. Lauderdale area and I'm looking to get back into driving. Since I have been away so long the big carriers are telling me I need to go to school again. I don't have the money, much less the inclination to do that. funny that a newbie out of school with no miles under his belt is actually in a better position to be hired then me. Although I am aware that a year and a half of driving does not make me experienced, I still know I can get the job done. I know what it is like to be looking for a place to stop on the PA Trnpk during a whiteout. I know what it is like to lose the trailer under black ice in Minneapolis and be skilled enough to recover and save my life. I know how crucial every gear is coming down steep grade. But none of that knowledge seems to matter to a big carrier.
It is funny how insurance companies are running our industry.
So here it is...I'm looking for a shot. I'm hard working ,dedicated, and really take pride in my ability to get the job done. I had an extensive sales background, so customer satisfaction always stands out with me. I represent the people I work for in the same way I would want them representing me.
I'm not a kid,I'm 43 and have experienced all the bumps that go with the age,so know that I am responsible. But above all I'm honest and looking for an opportunity to continue this journey through life doing what I always truly loved.
If anyone knows of any opportunities or has any constructive ideas,I would really appreciate any advice.
Stay safe Driver!!
Thanks for reading.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
