I got pulled over once in Ohio years ago and didn't realise that I left my wallet at a truck stop in Georgia, the cop didn't make a big deal out of it, just gave me my ticket. I wouldn't worry too much about it because there is really nothng you can do.

I spent 3 wonderful days in Knoxville with no ID. Had left wallet in the car.

After getting routed back home, the truck broke down in Knoxville, before getting home.

That was a complete pain in the ###. Having to walk across the street every afternoon to cash a comcheck for the motel room....and a bit of pocket change.

At least the young guy at the register was cool about it. It could have been much worse, without his help.

Have your co. fax you a copy and if you get stopped just show it and a TWIC card or some other peice of ID and be honest. I drove from New Mexico back to Fla. without one got stopped at the coup in La. no problem I went on my way. I was also pulling a hazmat tanker!

You're going to be OK, hopefully your SS# isn't displayed on your missing D.L.

If someone finds it they'll usually drop it in a mailbox, it'll go to your state DMV.

I know it's off the subject a bit- but what kind of free country is this when you have to live in constant terror of being arrested and charged with a crime because you misplaced a simple government document? Copies of our CDL's are all over the Government's database. Why should anyone be punished for losing it when anyone with access to the info can print a copy of it? A real Public Servant would print a copy and the driver should be able to use that until his state sends a new one (After the Driver pays for it AGAIN).

Instead, this Driver has to live like a fugitive until his State can get him a replacement.

Off topic.... but what the hell.

I recently received two 28 page "Census" forms. And about 10 follow up cards demanding/threatening consequences if I failed to complete it. Or filled it full of false information. Fines up to $5000.

Way too much personal information was asked for !!!

Bunch a dumb #### even listed the website to go to if I had questions. After paying that site a visit....I trashed the survey.

BTW, for those of you who want to know about those fines. It's $100 for not filling it out. The "up to" fines are meant for those who provide false information, or are stupid enough to threaten somebody over the survey,

Additionally, they also state they are not an enforcement agency. And have NO information regarding anyone actually being fined....ever.

Pretty much what these guys said. Get a photocopy for the time being.

Most DMV's have a online method of replacing a lost or stolen DL, I would do that, print the copy of your receipt and have that on hand as well.

No one is going to dumpster dive at a truck stop for you. Blame the piss bottle problem.

I really cant think when the last time someone checked my DL, and I am pretty young. I wouldnt ( and havnt) gotten worked up over losing a DL, if you know your DL number and SS number your good. Keep driving and deal with it when you have an officer on your step, which if you get routed home, it shouldnt happen.

Just get a copy of it when you can and go. Heck most DMVs give out paper license to people who are waiting for renewed/new licenses anyways. Be sure to copy both sides.

Thanks- I've refused to fill out every census, every time. No one's jailed or fined me yet. I suspect the census takers just fill it out for me and turn it in. I'm dreaming of the day when I'm a Sovereign American and I can tell the census idiots to "get off my sovereign land".
