Well what I was trying to say, is that you know there are places, like Brownsville, TN, where the DOT might say, "lets see you do a 15 minute PTI".

I am all for conserving hours where one can. Personally, I have mixed feelings about ELOGS. Its really going to cut out "creative logging", which is good in some ways, but bad in others... Gonna be tough for a driver to make money if they spend the night at a customer, but the ELOG shows them moving the truck around after 8 hours, and the driver has to take another full 10.

Now, I am just assuming thats how it will work, but maybe not. I dont want to see this be a big problem, but there will be some growing pains over the next several months as everyone gets used to it. But I guess Wener has been using them for years, and the last company I worked for used them, though a much different kind of elog (XATA).

Give me a couple of energy drinks washed down by a few cups of coffee and I can show them how to do a pre trip in 10 minutes...:biggrin_25514:

OK now I officially hate ELogs!!! I am not going to always stop one hour before I run out of hours just to make sure I don't get a violation. That is just plain stupid! Now I can only drive 10 a day with this thing!!

The load I am under right now was tight and just enough time to get there. If I did not make the TA tonight then I would have been screwed on my delivery time. So I did not stop this time an hour early I pushed on because I knew I would have just enough time to do it but it would take the full 11.

Pulled in the TA as the clock ticked to 00 and got into the fuel Island. Pulled the air brakes and boom off duty. Hmm now I have to find a place to park. Go around the parking lot slowly and the next thing I know this thing said William you are now in violation!!!!

What The HELL!!!! By the time I found a spot and pulled in I was now five minutes over!!! take this thing back and give me my paper back!! Over and over again it kept telling me and then message after message while I was trying to back up!! This thing would not shut the hell up!!

That aint fair Swift!! I got here when it said 00!!! Some of you will say well you should have stopped way before then. Well there is no place to park up here anywhere within two hours from here!! And if I did the load will be late. I have only had enough time the past few days to stop and pee and that is about it!

So lucky me I had stopped at a rest area and forgot to log the darn thing Off Duty and it gets me 10 minutes back!! Therefor I should not have a log violation. This is just plain stupid for me to have to stop way before my hours are up to make sure this don't happen again. But in the real world we all know you are going to sooner or later drive your full 11 and this thing won't let you.

This thing needs to be changed to five miles before it logs you on driving so if you ever get there right as it ends you have time to find a spot to shut it down..

Crazy stupid computer blinking red at me and bugging me to death while I back!!!

We got to the truck today after having a reset and found a msg on the QC telling us we were going to get to start elogs. Well, we've discussed it with Gladys our truck and she's with us on this.........no thanks. I'm wondering if I can claim that someone stole that new QC right out of the cab. Pity how that happened. Tragic. *hides my screwdriver from view* I'm so sad that it's gone.

Those tattle-tale elogs are messed up. It's supposed to be there to let you log accurately, not purposely get you into trouble. I can drive mine down to the last few seconds, stop at the light down the street or in the parking lot, whatever, switch it to on duty, and take as much time as I want to park. If it's going to switch to driving because I'm moving, it pops a notice and asks me if I want to switch. I hit skip, it doesn't change. The only thing I can't do is switch off the drive line while the truck is moving.

There's no stupid red light either. It beeps once or twice and that's it.

I have seen this idea repeated over and over on these forums. Has anyone ever actually had this requested of them, or is this just another truckstop rumour? And if you did, why on earth would you comply? I was tested in order to get my license. Most companies will also ask a prospective new hire to perform inspections to ensure they have a level of knowledge sufficient enough to entrust them with the equipment. Beyond that, I'm not a trained monkey that performs tasks for the satisfaction, or bemusement of some official. A pre-trip might take 15 minutes today, it might take 22 minutes tomorrow and it might be 12 minutes the day after. Just because a driver logged a specific time for an inspection on one occasion, it does not ensure that same task is repeatable in the same time on another occasion. If an officer has reason to suspect that a log entry is false then let him articulate that on a citation, otherwise... piss up a rope.

I'd like to see the regulation that states that a pretrip must be exactly 15 minutes. I'm betting there isn't one. The only reason this 15 minutes thing exists, is because the paper logs run in 15 minute increments. Well, elogs don't. I log it as I do it. Now that is in the regulations.
