I am searching for a school that I get paid for classes, lodging, food ect. And a decent contract that includes PAID training (in class and during training after obtaining CDL).. plus a local route after I complete my OTR training. However.. I know that’s a big reach lol but I am definitely prepared for at least 1year OTR as long as I am able to bring my guard pup in my avatar lol (Kolt, 2y/o GSD) I have 2 young girls to take care of or I’d be OTR everyday of my life .

I want my CDL- Class A and i saw something about Oil Field? Then to be qualified Flatbed, Hazmat, Airbrakes .. all the good stuff (every single one if possible lol never know what might pop up!) And if I didn’t list something I should be adding to that please let me know. The oil field will be down the line but would still love to know some more about it. If you come across this and have any suggestions please let me hear them ! I’m more comfortable in trucks than my personal vehicle, I’m good at what I do. I have an actual passion for driving that may not make sense to some people lmao I just love it.

I also (don’t judge too hard now) help out a friend and travel to different states picking up flatbeds I am most likely not “qualified” for and it’s made me fall even more in love with trucking. I’ll only be helping out with trucks I’m permitted to drive according to my DOT from here on out!!!! Can’t risk any problems or points considering the seriousness of what I’m getting myself into with school!

    Thankkk yaaaaa !!

Make sure to get the Tanker endorsement. Also get Doubles/Triples. They are just computer test questions and a small fee. They never expire or need to be renewed. Tanker is required for some freight that is put inside vans/reefers and on flatbed trailers. Tanker IS NOT just for pulling liquid tanker trailers. If you get every endorsement you can haul all freight. All of the endorsement tests are available online. I use TruckerCountry.com. You can practice all of hem online.

There is almost no chance you can bring your dog with you during the period after you get your CDL and while you are riding with a trainer at the first employer. You might get lucky, but it's very unlikely. Having my dog with me was the best, but training it hard enough with 2 adults sharing the tiny space of a truck. You may have to find a place for your dog during the several weeks you ride with your trainer until you get your own solo truck. A few bigger companies won't let you carry a pet or a rider for your first 90 days solo in your truck. But once you are good to go and solo having your dog with you is awesome.

Where in Ohio are you? That determines a lot as far as what’s in your area. Use the link below to find government approved schools.

    Training Provider Registry

Some of the franchised schools have contracts with mega carriers, and if you qualify, the training is free, plus you have a job the second you graduate.

Before going directly to any of the carriers that have schools, consider applying for the WIOA program that I think Obama started. You apply for it through Ohio. They will pay for your CDL training allowing you to go to any school that you want.

Ohio is actually a really good location for driver jobs. You might be able to find something local or regional that pays good money. Even with the mega carriers, they’ll have options in Ohio.

She wants a company that pays while attending cdl school.
I know of 3 and posted 2 of them.
R.E. West Transportation is the 3rd one.

Yes but sounds like she’s willing to compromise on some aspects, and that she primarily wants that because she’s assuming all “free” training will be at campuses where she’d have to relocate to attend. Not necessarily the case.

Thank you !!!!!!!!! I’m located in Akron! And you are right about the many driver jobs Non-CDL and CDL. I actually just got hired in yesterday right after posting this for an Non-CDL OTR Field Transportation Specialist. I’ve never been on the road and I’m freaking out lol . Can’t believe I’m gonna be out myself. It pays craaazy good , $60 Per Diem , $100 a month towards phone bill , free full benefits I asked if the address was heaven lmaooo and free hotel stays. I’ll be picking up/delivering large medical equipment I’m used to packages up to 150lbs from FedEx thank goodness. But apparently they send me out with a whole fork lift !!?? No hard labor for me finalllly . I’m super excited. Will be nice to get that OTR feel as I decide on a school. I feel like it’s quite the rare opportunity.
