That better be in FULL SYNTHETIC....esp with those extended intervals

I see a lot of sludge in the making right there, for the poor soul that gets sticker shock on the oil change and opts for non-synthetic. They'll suffer the same fate as Saab owners who opted for dino oil, instead of using the required full synthetic oil.

bzinger and Oscar the KW Thank this.

The original company that owned my truck ran 10w30 synthetic blend in it & did 50k services for 725k miles. There's not a bit of sludge in the motor.

The shop manager at the company I bought my truck from also told me they use strictly fleetgaurd filters and that fleetgaurd has upped its game on filtration ...with my low idle time and mid 7s on fuel mileage I've settled on 20k drains from the 30k it was at .

It also has to do with how much weight you average, MPG, driver habits, idle time, etc.
I purchased my truck brand new. 2016 Kenworth.
The manual says to use 30 weight synthetic blend and change every 60k.
I knocked it in half, and change at 30k.

    bzinger Thanks this.

You don't have issues with DPF filter considering you idle versus having a APU?

    RStewart Thanks this.

It made it to through it's service life. I replaced it at 750k miles which is about the average service life. They say to bake them usually around 350k-400k miles & replace around 750-800k.

I've never been one to see any benefit to synthetic oil going way back to when it first came out. I would prefer to run 5w40 but I would have to buy full synthetic & I don't see any benefit to paying the money for it. I'm sure oil technology has changed since I went to my last oil seminar but I still don't buy into it. Plus I've seen quite a few oil analysis comparing different oils & cheap conventional was just as good as full synthetic.

I don't think the argument is about effectiveness, it's more about longevity. IMHO.
