35,000 for normal duty, 50,000 for light and is considered 6.5 mpg or more, so 50,000 miles

Never really subscribed to the idea of servicing an engine by mileage. Too many variables for me. Most folks I know don't put much more than 200k miles on a truck in 4-5 years but that engine is working hard 10-12 hours a day. An oil change every 9-12 months isn't going to cut it IMO.

You missed the whole point I was making. 500 hours is 500 hours, doesn't matter if it takes you 2 months and 8k miles to get there or 8 months and 60k miles.

A truck running hard out in the bush is going to take 2-3x the hours to hit 40k miles than a truck that runs 65 mph all day long down the highway. The oil is getting broken down any time the engine is on, mileage is variable.

Drawing a comparison between OTR and severe duty doesn’t really prove anything. With a Paccar, to go be considered normal duty and go 75k you need to be 80k and less gross weight, above 6mpg, and less than 20% idle time.

The interval for severe duty that you describe is 30k miles or 800 hours.

Also valid. In the application I know best, you'd hit 800 hours at about 20k miles.

Slightly off topic but one company I worked for had a couple trucks that were about 7 years old and had 27k miles on them. Hour meters were anywhere from 20,000 to 24k-ish. All stationary work. When called out they'd drive to a job site and run the PTOs 24/7 until the job was done.

That might be true but 99% of us are running 65 mph up the highway, not pulling super loads through stone quarries.

I hardly think 100k-140k lbs qualifies as a super load.

Doesn't qualify as normal use maintenance schedule.

I change it around 5x a year, maybe little less. Compete PM costs me less than $300. Cost is definitely not a burden here. Truck had a inframe at little over a million, and it’s at 550k now. I’ll continue to do what works. You’re welcomed to service your truck how you please, if you never change the oil it’s no skin off my behind. Have a good day
