Well you're assuming the driver is diving non-stop every hour of the shift.
The OP said it's not a lot of miles. Let's say only 300 miles per shift. 300 devided by 6.3mpg is 47.6 gallons. 47.6 times say $4 per gallon is $190 in fuel cost.
If they're charging $85, thats $1190 for the day. That's $1000 after fuel cost per day.
Unless I'm missing something, thats pretty good.

Cooley--good info, have wanted info for quite some time....your explanations are good in helping both drivers and o/o's look at making a decision. I currently have 2 tractors, a 144" big sleeper and a classic frtlner. The frtlner would be the tractor of choice based on your info you presented...Thanks Cooley---you did good
cooley Thanks this. -
Good post. Accurate for the most part, TA in Big Springs is a dump-well not compared to Loves in Odessa. There are lots of other places to shop in Big Springs except Wally. Just have to find them. Worst thing to me about that area was road to Garden City and Big Lake. Dangerous with lots of tired newbies and super truckers making u turns and pulling right on to 2 lane without looking.
Cooley has it nailed pretty well. -
I'm in Big Spring as well. Let me know if you need help with that RV. I froze up a few times(even my sewer line froze solid a couple nights ago) but thankfully nothing broke(except the sewer hose)
cooley Thanks this. -

A big Pilot station is about to open in Big Spring 1 exit down from the TA

No thanks. I think I'll keep my four day week, 45 hour job. Sounds like a job for the young and unmarried. I like being home every night. I probably would've enjoyed that job back when I was starting out. Now, I'm just too old and fat.

Very nice post indeed. You covered it all.
If you work nights and haul water, get a UV flashlight ($10 at walmart) , You ll get the alien blood easy reading on that tape.
33 is not so bad (Big Spring to Big Lake through Garden City) 158 is worstand for those that know, 2469 is the worst of the worst.
For the mileage i usually got 4.5 mpg av on the company truck (Mack Granite 2013) and I put average of 50 gallons per shift. -
hardworkinman and terrylamar Thank this.
