I have a 2011 International prostar with the ISX15 liter Cummins, My oil pressure gauge maxed out, then dropped down to 5 pounds of pressure, then goes into shut down mode. Everything I have read states to change the oil pressure sending unit. I did so, after doing so the gauge seemed to have worked properly for approximately 10 minutes then it maxed out and once again dropped back down to 5 pounds of pressure, when I accelerate the engine the gauge does not move. The motor is not making any noises, and Is full of oil.
Has anyone ever encountered this problem on their truck can you give me any ideas of what to look for.

I had a similar problem years ago in my '01 Volvo. Problem ended up being a loose wire on the circuit board in the dash cluster.

If the sending unit didn't fix it I would try changing the oil pressure gauge.

Plumb in a mechanical gauge and see what that reads.

I would go ahead and instal the manual gauge. I’m not sure on Cummins, but sometimes you can fool the computer by unplugging the sensor.

If it’s not an electrical issue, more than likely you have a sticking oil pressure relegated valve.

If you start it and max out the manual gauge start looking for threads involving an ISX and oil pressure relief, you should find somebody more familiar your engine.

Replace Oil Pressure Sensor. Mine was doing same thing and I got my problem fix. Check the link below

    Location Oil Pressure Sensor

When I replaced the Problem went away.
