seals going out. I had a very fine mist for a while in my intercooler elbow. I let it go for a month.
There was no shaft play but who knows, i replaced it anyway. Wouldnt want that to self destruct while on the road.Intothesunset and Brightlog Thank this. -
When you say seals. You referring seals from turbo ?Last edited: Jul 2, 2019

Do I have to replace my turbo? or get it cleaned ?
-
replace the turbo
if the seal is bad odds are the bearing will be nextCam Roberts Thanks this. -
If this is a VGT the Holset turbocharger does not use seals. Check the impeller for axial and radial movement. If there is evidence of of the rotor hitting the housing the bearings are already worn beyond their serviceable life. It will most likely need to be replaced.
Any oil on the exhaust side? Also make sure the oil drain is open and not blocked. If the drain is plugged it will force the oil out from the wrong places.Cam Roberts and QUALITYTRUCK Thank this. -
that pic you posted is exactly what i had going on. Yeah when that starts to leak, its best to replace the turbo. Its time. What turbo is on the truck?

It’s a 2009 dose this help?

CM 871 or CM2150 both are most likely Holset VGT if stock.
Provide ESN to be sure.
You will need to clean the CAC of oil and inspect the DPF for oil saturation. If your lucky it's only coming out the compressor side.
Have one in the shop now. Found the hot side blade and shaft all the way down at the DOC. It made a huge mess. Oil was running out of the DPF/ SCR.spsauerland Thanks this. -
2009 is cm871.
