First oil change has not been done yet. We are at 8000 now. Running long and hard going north to south and back again. We were told oil change would not be done till 50,000 was hit. Hubby not happy with with that since it's too long for new break in. But they do oil test and he is going to do that also.

Well, Bogi, you were right. The oil was changed after the rebuild and the dyno test, and then we changed it again at 8,000 miles. Used a little oil the first fill up, but it never made it past the "add" mark now at about 6,500 past the oil change. Just sat at that level for the last three fill ups.

    Whew.....!

I must have a fluke. I have a factory reman DDEC IV 12.7 60. It has about 488,000 miles on the motor now. It uses about 1/2 gallon in 20,000 miles. I am using a syn blend 10w30 in it. It has never used more than about 1/2 gallon in 20,000 miles over it's entire life. I did the first oil change in it at 10,000 miles and have been doing 20,000 mile oil changes ever since.

No it's not normal. I have 400,000 on a cumapart rebuild and it uses a gallon a month.

Here is a group of samples from my factory remanned S60 with over 500,000 miles on it. The samples vertically (latest sample on top), the first two show results from using 10w30 the second two from using 15w40. The 10w30 is doing quite nicely, is holding TBN and viscosity better, and the latest sample shows lowest wear numbers. Not bad for a factory remanned motor with over 500,000 miles on it.
