You can go to Cummins web site Quick serve and get free info on your engine ..what I see 6 is low on the chart they provide. Was it 6 in total or 6 inches on one side which would make it 12. 12 is still middle of the chart.

The reason I asked where you got your PM was I found doing it at some places there oil didn't seem to last or stand up as long. I try and always get it done at a TA. When my isx started to consume oil you would leave quite the blue cloud behind you especially when you first start to roll. It had over a million on it.

No smoke that I see. I had it done at good year with shell oil. Thinking of adding Lucas in next time.

I'm not sold on Lucas but that's just my opinion. Lots of guys swear by it.

Cummins Quick Serve chart puts high acceptable oil usage at 800/ quart if it is a 870 ISX

I use to swear by it but no longer, I had O rings leaking on front gear case, didn't help any but increase oil pressure, then I read an article by RAWZE, and added Super Tec 140 Wal-Mart to oil changes 7 weeks later it was dryer than a pop corn fart, 1.3 mill on engine, only thing I might do different is get a GL4 rated oil to reduce sulfur levels, the amount Rawze said he used and the amount I used to get the results I needed was different, however it is half the price and I have documented results that convince me from my oil log

If you see blue smoke at startup is a good sign valve seals are worn. An over head has nothing to do with oil seals or useage, Its a valve clearance adjustment. If I didn't know the history would be doing it. Couple hr. job on a 3406 cat.

My N14 will use a little more oil if I idle a fair amount. Never enough that I have to add any on a 10k service interval.

Skip the Lucas treatment. I think to many guys that talk about that are the same guys that follow KR's advertisement schemes.

remember that every 10hr you idle is the same as driving about 200 miles a day... about 5,500 a month so if you can go 20,000 before you use 1 gl. of oil (my winter usage gl. per 22,000 miles) you'll use that same amount of oil in around 15,000.... (my summer usage is 18,000 miles) i have a volvo D12 100,008,800 miles
