I don't know all about that but when I drove for Celadon they switched my truck to all synthetic.......and then let me roll 30,000 before getting an oil change...they almost blew the #### engine.

From what I understood at the time you will need to change the filter after about 5-10,000 miles the first time....due to the fact that so much stuff is being cleaned out of the engine.

    I doubt it.

Oh! Wait! I'm certain that you can, but can't vouch for how long your motor lasts.

If you really want to stretch oil changes you have to do an oil analysis regularly so you can monitor what is happening inside your motor.

many a engine has run a million plus miles, on regular 15w40 and good filters being changed at 12-15,000 miles. just my .02, cheap insurance in my book. I dont really buy into the synthetic oil but if I did 20-25,000 would be max and I would change filter at about 10,000.

I have never been a fan of synthetic oils in a class eight, I was involved with a test years back with new N14s, they did it for 4to 5 hundred thousand miles, their were other trucks doing the same run that were not using the synthetic, we did bearing roll-ins twice on both groups the ones with the synthetics had a lot more impregnated particles and wear. The filters were changed once without changing the oil, tests always came back as good. They had spinner filters, I was not impressed.
If you remember those engines when they first came out we were in them a lot changing injectors, and the ones with the synthetic had a huge amount of black jelly everywhere it could sit.
They used more oil, and when you count the costs of the oil analysis, it cost a lot more, the test was terminated. We used ATF as an engine flush and went back to Delo 400.
They were a chip transportation outfit and ran 22 hours a day 5 days a week.
    Just a thought!

In regular vehicles the problem with synthetics were your engine had to be tight. Otherwise the synthetic would find a hole and leak out. Usually mobil 1 for the synthetic. I have seen more people when working in Complete Tire of Ellsworth go back to regular oil because of the mess Mobil 1 created. But its your nickel.

Mercedes use Fullsyntetic oils in Europe. And seems to me they do it increase oil change intervals. They change oil every 30k km. Some owners use not recomended for OM501/502 engines mineral oil and no difference they got. Only starting issue if it is below zero outdoors.

I always used dino oil. delvac or rotella. changed oil & filt every 10,000 miles. there have been maybe 3- times in 11 years I went to 12,000 miles. I bought some synthetic blend rotella t5 a couple months ago. only cause it was on sale at wally world. it was cheaper than the regular 15w40. I have not used it yet, just changed my oil before I bought it. after. it is used. I will go back to dino. I have read rave reviews about syth oil. for me. I like using dino oil & changing at 10-11,000 miles. looking at my oil at 10,000 wants me want to change it at 8,000 miles.I would never go 30,000 miles no mater what a mfr or a oil analys said. old habits die hard. I have said this a few times on this board. that 10,000 is my comfort zone.

I worked on engines all my life and an oil change is the cheapest overhaul you will not need. The shorter the interval you change the oil the longer the engine will last.
Ever notice how the oil level does not drop for a while after the oil is changed, well if you monitor that and when it starts using oil that is 50% of the oils life, and the oil should be changed, when the mileage is twice that.
Trying to get every last mile from oil to me is not the way to go. I use synthetics in my Gas vehicles but I change the oil early and often.
I use synthetics in my little loader, it does not have any way to plug it in.
I use synthetics in all my gear cases, and they last longer when changed early.
I use synthetic grease, and I do that a lot also.

I agree with with johnp3, it is the cheapest way to prevent major issues. I agree with synthetic gear oil and grease but again I change it earlier than recommended. cheap insurance.
