Hey, there just a quick question I've recently landed a job that is all about hauling production water off of oil well sites, and i am wondering what type of pay i should expect @20% of the load. i know the oil and gas industry is not currently booming like it was a few years ago but any info will help. despite the pay i love the work just as long as I'm getting composited for the work I'm putting in.
plus if any of you have any other advice I'm always open the receiving help from others

Been in oilfield for ten years hauling water etc. That rate is low many companies paying with no experience 16-20 hr.
rabbiporkchop and qtrucking101 Thank this. -
Percentage doesn't sound like a good idea right now....might make decent money but it would depend on your company's contracts

One load of water in the Permian costs $300 all done. Disposal fees are .40 to .50 a bbl. ( x 130 ) so $235 net truck x 20% = $47 gross per load for you minus taxes so about $38 dollars will reach your pocket.
All this assumes you scrub out and load 130 bbls. IMO you would need 30 loads a week to get anything decent home. I don't see it today. Too many trucks available.
Seek a hourly rate IMO. You could switch later if the boom returns.

I got a job out in WTX start this week, start off $20 and he say u know how that goes 100+ hrs a week

Any outfit paying company drivers a percentage isn't worth working for. You'd make better wages (at the moment) working in a grocery store.
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
Believe it or not the average in wtx is $1500 regardless of what you are hauling. Could be less, but that's average, I've asked hundreds of people. Water, flatbed, end dump, oil hauler, its $1500.
This is actually the time when getting paid hourly outweighs percentage. -
I've called around and three tanker companies in W. ND. wanted me to hire on with them.
I have 3.5 years ex. with oilfield VAC-truck and they offered me 22% of $1.29, another one 22% of 1.80 and the last one $22/ hr.
First two said I could make $2000 a week if I put the hours in.
I'm presently more per hour with overtime so even though I don't like somethings about my job I'll stay where I'm at. -
