I've always found that the more "wide open" it is , the more difficult it is to line up and hit easily. No points of reference, such as other trailers or fence lines.

I can put a 53 in a broom closet... but sometimes can't hit water falling out of a boat.

We all have those moments. Usually when someone's watching.

I have some bad backing days too. And I'm backing a pup most of the time! The worst is when I'm having a bad night and can't get the dolly positioned right when it's hooked to the pintle hook on my tractor. Finally I'll stop about 50ft out and just walk it back............

Every driver has "one of those days" and anyone that says otherwise isn't actually a driver.

That works ok on a single axle gear, but how about on a tandem? (I've never used a tandem gear.)

We don't use tandem gear, but I suspect you are correct, walking it wouldn't be much of an option.

I had a shipper/receiver that had really good docks with a lot of room. Well they moved shipping to a building with two just made docks in a parking lot not made for trucks. I had two choices back off a busy road or go over a couple curbs where I had permission and nothing to tear up if done right. I could tell I wouldn't be the first driver do that. I had to still weasel it in over curbs narrowly missing employees vehicles. But then again some days I can do a 90 with no problem and on others I couldn't back into a empty Wal-Mart parking lot (if that exists). So I don't let it get to my if other drivers have to wait then they have to wait.
