What I would do is to get a letter from your lawyer, that states your whole criminal history and the courts disposition of the matter.

Then always; when filing out applications for employment, put "see attached document" on the application and submit the letter with the application

Thanks for the sermon. I am glad you have it all figured out, but there was a time in trucking when this was pretty common. I find it funny those small carriers who grew into mega carriers by using drivers that ran two log books and triple digit trucks are now entrusted to weed out the "bad driver". I guess you didn't experience the glory days of Red Ball.

You were given a chance to straighten out your life and you chose to do just that. It seems that you are heading in a good direction, and as long as you can stay strong, keep working through whatever drug counseling or support program you have been involved with, and shake off the people that would keep you in the old life, you've got a great chance at a clean and strong life ahead. I think you probably have as good a shot at breaking into trucking as anyone and getting a decent job with a good company. BUT YOU CAN"T AFFORD TO SLIP UP, even one itty-bitty bit.

So...make sure you are at a stage where you can stay clean when faced with life's ups and downs. Don't leave the proximity of your support network until you are absolutely sure it's ok. You may be at that point right now, I don't know. Just be sure. And then proceed with your new career as if you don't have a record on drugs, because you don't. And stay thankful to the Big Guy upstairs for watching out for you.

The very best of luck to you.

Good thing the first time you ever committed a crime it wasn't held to your face in such a fashion. Casting stones in glass houses . . . . . .

Honesty is the best policy here, You've been clean for 5 years. Be up front because its going to show. Everybody in trucking is not perfect, nor have they all had perfect past lives. There are lots of drivers that have done far worse than a little nose candy.

When you fill out the paperwork list it, don't attempt to hide it at all. Tell them you had used it in the past, but have not touched anything in 5 years. May Truck has been good in the past at helping driver get started.

We have several posters here that are full of them selves, probably makes them feel good to attack others. Helps them cope with there own indiscretions I imagine. Some of us had real past lives and maybe we have not always been perfect as we are now.

I admit, I have been pushed to where the choice was either lose a job, or use "wake up medication". What was hauling cattle like in the '70's? It was driving three days straight with no sleep! No human can do that naturally and yet we were expected to do it. It was how it was and you either did it or you went down the road! Period.

That is why most truckers that have been at this most of their lives find it hard to judge someone else.

Now, if you are a veteran of five years? Go ahead and set yourself up as judge and jury.

I too am willing to cut the guy some slack. He made some mistakes when he was young, and now that he has grown up a little, he wants to truck. I would much rather be the forgiving grandfather than the accusing brother. So I see it like wildcat: No one has been spotted walking on water recently.

How many of you who feel the need to judge this fellow sit up late on your computers viewing porn all night long? Imagine if that could end your career?
