One advantage to pulling reefers is there's lots of night driving when the truck stops are full. Easy to find parking during daylight hours and sleep then.
That was my routine and worked well if I did careful trip planning.
Ok I quit, but I’ll be back…. Maybe

Did it impact your 34 hrs restart?austinmike, hope not dumb twucker and Chi Town Steers Thank this. -
It did not impact my 34. I logged a pre trip and a post trip because we don’t have PC. But he didn’t care about anything other than the truck moved on my day off.austinmike, hope not dumb twucker, Lonesome and 1 other person Thank this.

Talk to his boss. Is national dedicated still being run out of GB? If so, Marc is probably the ops manager and a solid guy who will listen and support you. If it's Liz, skip her and go straight to Katie, the division manager.austinmike, Gearjammin' Penguin, Lonesome and 3 others Thank this.

I don’t know any of those people, but I’m not here to play politics. They know what they’re doing. Or what they’re not doing. Apparently just this past week 5 people quit the Home Depot account just in this one market.austinmike and Lonesome Thank this.

I didn’t mind pulling the reefer trailer for dollar general, but it was mostly day time driving. But I also didn’t have to look for parking ever because I could park at DG stores and the DG DCaustinmike, hope not dumb twucker and 77fib77 Thank this.

I was doing coast-to-coast reefer driving which made it easier to trip plan for decent parking and sleep periods.
For just one example; pulled a load of tomatoes from Florida to California, then next load was also a different type of tomato from California & back to Florida.
Lots of apple loads from Washington State to various places all along the East Coast.
I really like that type of trucking.austinmike and Chi Town Steers Thank this. -
That don’t sound bad at all. Yeah this parking situation is crazy. It’s literally bad enough to be a deal breaker for a lot of jobs. I had no idea it was so bad until I started driving.austinmike, hope not dumb twucker, Lonesome and 2 others Thank this.

Lot of drivers hate refrigerated OTR, but it's a good fit for me because I don't give a crap about many issues that annoy other drivers.Last edited: May 6, 2025

Darn it, I ran out of popcorn! Gotta get some more, I have a strong feeling that there will be some more epic stories.
I’m doing mostly regional loads out of Dallas (Texas is a no income tax state, not that it really matters to me), I’m home every weekend (I’m thinking about changing that to every other weekend for a while to boost my income), I rarely drive more than 2k miles a week, which is fine with me because I’m on salary ($1400/week gross, $1150 net). I drive a nice new truck, and my company treats me like they want to keep me, and keep me happy. Much more boring than your stories!
