How robust is your experience in running a business?
When you buy a truck you are starting a business. Entrepreneurial spirit only gets you so far unless you are backed by a stack of cash.
Keep in mind there is a reason somebody is selling a used truck. May have to drop a pile of money into it to fix the problems that a couple of dozen techs have not been able to figure out over the past few years. As my dad told me and my sister "If it got testicles, tits, or tires it will give you grief"
There is good business reasons that the basic factory warranties start expiring at 1 year/100,000 miles and that you have to pay extra to boost that to 300k or 400k.
Have you been tracking your fuel consumption and fuel pricing in your current truck so that you have half a clue at how to run a truck cost effectively?
Do you understand how expensive insurance is for a new trucking company?
How comfortable are you with leaving money set in a bank account so you can repair the truck when it breaks?
Are you up to figuring out what your maintenance set aside should be on a weekly or monthly basis?
Do you realize that good quality tires are about $400 each if you get set up with a friendly deal? Closer to $500 each if no friendly group deal. Will be going up with the tariffs.
Do you have a clue on the IFTA Tax and miles tax games?
I think you are smart enough to see where I'm heading with this......
Do you have a way to gain that knowledge you should have?
Or are you o.k. with failing and going bankrupt like a high percentage of other drivers that step into it unprepared?
Meh it came out kinda harsh..... But F! It somebody needed to say that stuff.JB7, hope not dumb twucker, Albertaflatbed and 6 others Thank this. -
Figure could run a 2019 freight liner at a cost of around $1.44 a mile.Lonesome, Oxbow and austinmike Thank this.

Sometimes alot of things in trucking only change because someone brings it to attention... maybe the situation doesn't help you out at all but it very well may change for the guy that will replace you... just think how many guys before you didn't bring the stupidity to the boss man's attention, now the #### has flowed down to you.... seems to be alot of how this industry works.. or maybe I just have a short fuse for people that like to make others life's miserable... it's ridiculous they would treat a driver like they have treated you, but it's typical mega company bs... that's why they all have 100+% turnover every year then complain there is a so called driver shortageJB7, austinmike, hope not dumb twucker and 5 others Thank this.
