I have been driving a truck for 18 years. Im no stranger to the industry. I know there are ups and downs, but when you have the pressure of a huge truck payment as well and personal expenses, this choice program is a lot of stress. I am just putting this out there for the guys that are looking to come aboard.

You dont just sign a dotted line and start making the money shown in the great threads by Freightwipper, Sadwar, Tennman, etc. It take some serious patience, MAJOR planning, and some serious learning. You get a string of loads lined up paying great, excellent load times, or drop and hooks. Then when you go to get them assigned, half are gone already. You cant take the time to plan, for the good paying freight. Now keep in mind, Im new to this side of trucking (van trailers), and new to Schneider. The guys that started with me that were driving for Schneider already are doing much better than me. That being said, I am doing OK, but I want to do GREAT!!!

The rates I am seeing are not that great, I have been running in the $1.40 - $1.60 range, and I am nowhere even close to home. The $2.00 plus loads are there, but they are gone in a second or less, Unless I am missing something.

At the end of the day, there is money here, but youre going to earn it. I come from hauling 250,000 lbs and being 16' tall 140' long and over 13' wide on an almost daily basis. So the driving part, feels as if I am on a vacation. Its the mental stress that is getting to me. Its going to be good, once I get the freight figured out. Im making a shift in operation zones this week, getting out of my comfort zone. Maybe it will get better.

    See you guys out there!!!!

$1.60-$1.70 per mile is a profitable rate if you get the miles and revenue to go along with that. Personally I'd focus more on hitting revenue goals and less on CPM.

You've been here like what a week?

You said it yourself it takes patience and some serious learning.
Nobody jumps right in and does great right off the bat.

It takes time to learn the good/bad areas, where the good shippers are.
Most important learning what $ you can get per lane, per market etc etc.
Defining what a good load is and what's not. What time of the day to book, when to book far ahead vs not so much. When to go with shorter $3-$4 loads vs going with longer loads that pay less per mile.
As far as the high paying loads as you're seeing you can't sit around think and plan forever around it.. they go real quick sometimes in a matter of seconds! So your mind better be real quick when you see them lol.
We can go on and on here but there's soooo much to learn.

It took me 2-3 months before I even felt comfortable running my own show out here.
Takes time bro, calm down and study on.

Point is unless you do you homework you're not going to be very successful.
We can say hey yeah there's homework and things to learn you still it's up to you to put the time in and figure it out. The driving is the easy part......

Give it time..it will get better.
It's a new type of system for you.
Usually you'll get the hang of it in a month or two.
Learn your areas and anticipate where freight will be.

Hang tough..it is difficult out here!

As the old saying goes "If it sounds to good to be true it probably isn't" All these companies whether they be transport, selling a product, Multi Level Marketing all have one thing in common their product is the best it never fails and a person would be crazy not to buy it etc etc its only after they've got your money or signature that the attitude changes the other thing is if they said well "maybe our product is good or maybe it isn't?' who would go ahead and choose it? That's right Zip 0 nil no one . "There's a sucker born every minute" "Many people are gullible, and we can expect this to continue." David Hannum

Man, Phoenix is a real tough market. Frankly, I'm surprised that you're getting what you say you're getting.
But, nevertheless and to the point, it takes a while (and a bit longer for those who weren't SNI drivers to begin with). But, if you stay busy and stop chasing the $3 a mile freight, you'll be fine. Just plan to run all day, every day and you won't loose. If you sit in a truckstop constantly hitting the 'refresh' button, you'll not appreciate the outcome. It's hard work and those who work hard will succeed. Those that get their tails on their shoulders and say, "I ain't runnin' for that", set themselves up for failure.

Run all day, every day. And always remember, there's a reason it pays what it pays. Always remember.......

I'm from Phoenix but I haven't been home since Green Bay. So I am not getting those numbers in the Phoenix market.

I have been running my butt right off. Made a couple of bad decisions, which in turn, turned into more bad decisions, but things are getting way better.
