We all know the importance of doing a proper pretrip inspection each day, and a post trip walk around at the end of the day when out here doing our trucking thing.
But how many of you actually do a pretrip inspection on your personal vehicles when say... going to the, lumber yard to get a load of lumber for your weekend project, or picking up some drywall for your remodel, or going to the grocery?
I'll admit, I don't thoroughly look over my car or suv. I keep all my filter change dates written on the filters, change my oil every 7500 miles as stated in my manual, use 60,000 mile Goodyear tires, check my tire pressures and lights every week. Other than that, I pretty much just hop in and go.
Ok, let's all be 100% honest here...

I've never done a full pre-trip on a truck; so I'm sure not going to on my car.
Just kick the tires and "we're good." Take a leak on the ground and hit the road.Mortarmaggot, Woodys, jethro712 and 19 others Thank this. -
If I’m in an Ohio rest area and DOT is sitting there, wow do I do a long and thorough pretrip!

In a car or pickup I think it's a lot easier to tell If something ain't right. If the tires got air....I'm gone! Check the oil when I get gas which is probably every 3rd fill up since my wife drives it mostly. Brake lights get checked when it's dark out! Now the bike that's a different story...don't want to loose a wheel at 70!Gunner75 Thanks this.

I noticed that today..don't get out here much...on 70W. Walked in to the bathroom and when I walked back out a filthy Volvo with floppy fairings and a trailer that looked like they drug it out of the weeds and went truckin' was getting inspected right in the lot. Don't seem fair stop to get ahold of yourself and get DOTed at the same time!stayinback, Bob Dobalina, Feedman and 2 others Thank this.

Lol yeah this load im on I picked up at the yard in cincy Monday morning, I get to the rest area on i71 north from Lebanon, goal in to do a quick load check and hot the head, sure enough 2 dot cops sitting there inn the wide turn around watching me, so I decided top dive into my tarps and check all my securement. Glad I did since this was a preload, and several chains were more loose than I prefer. Took me about 20 minutes because of the way the tarps are on. After im done under im walking out of the rest area and one of the troopers is parked by the sidewalk on my way back, says to me, "we thought about checking on you after 15 minutes, you was under there a lot longer than we thought" I laughed and said "yeah, I'm pretty through on my load checks" he have me a thumbs up and rolled out. I checked trucker path and it showed the northbound scale was open, as I get up to the sign it's showing the bypass sign and both troopers were sitting inside the scale grounds one shot me a wave as I rolled by.Rollr4872, Mudguppy, Socal Xpress and 9 others Thank this.

It's such a habit to inspect my truck now I catch myself checking my car alot more. Always check the fluids and tire pressure after being gone for a week, and usually the lights too. I never did this before, but I kick the tires almost every time I drive it now unless I'm just going like 5 miles down the road.

Post trip inspection is a myth. I sometimes go around and kick tires before going home and double check that the doors are locked.
