The company you talked to, dropped a hint to you; they need drivers with a passport and hazmat endorsement; not required, but they're watching loads go to other companies because of it.
Ok, so is it worth it?

And that is what I took from the conversation with her.

While there's some truth about the hassle, my company pays me an extra $100 every time I go into Canada and hourly to run loads into the ports while other drivers without a TWIC sit and wait for freight.
I'd say it's worth the hassle in my case. -
Thanks FwL, I knew there would be at least a couple of drivers that wouldn't have a negative opinion on it.
-
it's not really a negative comment. it's just that some people just don't have a need for it.
i have hazmat, but so far it's been a waste of money for me. haven't used it once yet. i don't have twic or passport. haven't needed them.
my bro in law. has hazmat. it allowed him to haul oil.
most people don't have a need for any of that stuff. while others, couldn't survive without. sometimes it pays. sometimes it don't.
it's all in how your cdl career plays out.
i dumped my hazmat once. and every job prospect wanted it. so i got it back. and go figure. no job has mentioned it. just like before i dumped it.
the gooberment says i can get into canada. the truckers on here say i can't. so i don't have a passport. and no twic either. don't go to ports. no need for it. -
I've had my haz mat since I've had my CDL but hadn't had or needed my passport until the job I have now. The boss was all in my arse about when I was getting my passport, so I shelled out the $135, got it, went to Canada once and haven't used it since. Personally it doesn't bother me not using it since coming back into the US is usually such a pain anyway, but it does irk me that I had to spend the money for something I do not use. It's all good though because in a few weeks I'll be starting a new job where all I need is my haz mat and won't have to deal with ANY Canada work at all for a bunch more money than I'm making now.
