OK, so what's your solution, then?

If you can't pass road test on second attempt you don't get any more retrys for a year.

Where does the government $ come from though? Is there a specific grant or program they have? That’s what always confuses me. I’ve looked into it (a little bit, not that interested in doing all kinds of research- lol. ) and haven’t been able to come up with any actual info on how it works. Honestly, I didn’t look that hard, I’m sure it’s happening, I just would like to know how they actually go about doing it.

Nothing with the government is easy, but somehow these guys have found a way to take advantage of them.

Sorry to hi jack. It’s kind of on topic though

The Federal Dislocated Workers Fund is one of the programs. The name changes often but that one is for those eligible for unemployment automatically qualify to go to a truck training school for free. That's how I got mine in 98 after being laid off from a job. These days, the same program exists but it's widen it's net to those with a low enough income to qualify. the Feds (really all of us who pay Federal taxes) pay for the schooling to get a Class A.

So that program pays the CDL mill directly, instead of using the student as the middle man? Makes sense. They get enough of those checks every week and, well, enough said …

    Thanks

I say we let the politicians and the fmsca handle it.
Regular people can forget that when they started doing a job they weren’t perfect.
A man with 15 years of OTR driving surely improved at backing up even after year 7.
And rarely ever did I deliver to an interstate so backing into a tight dock doesn’t really affect getting a CDL which allows people to drive down the highway.

Mr @Ridgeline and Mr @Lepton1 will want in this discussion.

How do you fix whats wrong?

Start with the cars. No more dumbed down tests that braindead teens can pass. That driving test should be strenuous and in order to get a Class D license, you have to prove that you can really drive and drive well.

"But Six, we're talking the trucking industry..."

Bear with me. The problems you see in trucking stems from the cars first. If public safety was truly a priority, then stop giving driver licenses to morons. The stuff you guys are learning from so called trainers was stuff we had to know to get a driver's license back in the day. These fools who cant properly drive a car, refuse to share the road, refuse to read road signs, and are unable to merge SHOULDN'T HAVE EVER BEEN ALLOWED TO DRIVE A CAR, let alone a bigrig.

So you're ok with somebody with zero experience in the private sector much less driving a truck determine what it should take to drive truck? I've only been driving for a year and a half, I was a below average student in every grade and I passed it on second try with very little effort, the only reason I didn't pass the first time was I wasn't sure on all the pretrip inspection parts. I'll say what I was actually thinking now, if you can't pass the road test on second try you never get a cdl.
