Your tread question should be directed to drivers with 3 or more years of OTR experience. “Which company you would consider as a start if you were a rookie today?” Evaluate your past and present experiences with any company or what you really know about other companies’ safety, division, training, pay and state of residency as factors for your pick. You can have more than one choice but should explain your picks.
New drivers should remember that, in starting a new profession, any company is a learning process. You can start in a company (whatever division) that is wonderful, but consequently was a bad experience for you, because you went in with the wrong mindset.
As recent trucking school graduates with no experience we may have to lower our expectations and be realistic about the types of companies that are willing to hire a newbie. Bear in mind that people might criticize your choice. So what? We all want the “Golden Luxury Company” with 80K year, every weekend home, black high stacks, 18 speeds Super Truck!
I think you need to consider the pro and cons in your choice, but you should set your mind to conquer as a safe trucker. Go out there and learn from others. The forums are a great resource. Train yourself to be prepared so if trouble hits, you will be relaxed enough to deal with whatever your choice was. That way, your next company will be a great experience.

 

None of the above. In North Carolina I would go with Watkins Shepard out of their Conover terminal. They were a great company to start out with!

You are looking at being an over the road driver. Is location of orientation that important? If you deliberate over this long enough, the companies will look at your time between driving school and OTR training as "interrupted" and nobody will hire you unless you get re-certified by your driving school.

Your vast knowledge of trucking and your innate desire to have other people tell you what to do leads me to the following recommendation:

Go with CRE. They have pretty red trucks and you know of course that looks are most important in trucking. Lease a brand new truck from them. Cuz you're so smart you're ready to run your own trucking business.

Just let me know when you run the southwest corridor so I can be sure to take my hometime.
