Maybe once a year in Florida. Never in Texas, never around Denver, and almost never in CA.
You can say all you want about what you did with your trainer... But honestly, unless you team or live in CA, you aren't going out there much... If at all. A lot of the runs you did with a trainer you will never see again unless you team or become a trainer. You just aren't going to be rolling down that toll road all to often to be a pain in the wallet for a couple days waiting for reimbursement.
Yes, CA has toll bridges. Denver, Dallas and Houston have bypasses that are tolled.
DTB, it's gonna be a fact of life for you, unfortunately because you live in OK.
I know it bothers you but.... What about when he has 4 loads in a week times four $9.50 scale tickets he pays for out of pocket. Or the $40 washout because the local guy is not an account and it gonna kill time to go 40 miles (or further) and back to the closest Prime account washout. Light bulbs, or little parts , rather than wait for TA or Petro to get a message back from Prime Road Assist thru E-shop to authorize the charge.
All of these out of pocket expenses get reimbursed... It a lot of situations it's a whole lot easier to do it yourself, get the money back on the next check, meanwhile saving time on your log book. -
Oh, I understand. It's part of why I'm trying to build the padding in the bank. But we are still coming out of the hole we ended up in when he lost his job back in May. He got his first check since May 14 on August 6. I'm getting us there, and he's running the miles as he gets them. It's just a temporary issue that will not be there once we are back walking on solid ground.

They put an advance ballance on JCWs ComData card with every trip. That advance ballance is specifically meant to be used for cash tolls, scale tickets - whatever you need to pay cash for to run the truck. You just get a PO via the QualComm when you do your trip paperwork, and scan the receipt for reimbursement. No "mountains of paperwork." Its a rather good solution for dealing with petty cash with so many drivers scattered across the country.
As far as the many different types of toll transponders in use across the country... each one requires an administrative fee for use. EZPass covers much more territory than just the occasional trip down I44 or the other toll roads in Oklahoma. I doubt the number of trips through OK justifies the expense of procuring and maintaining "PikePASS" or whatever it is. Many of the more expensive toll roads and bridges in the east also provide significant discounts if those tolls are collected with a transponder. -
Well, that's not good news for a guy living in Michigan who has kids in Oklahoma City. Getting there to see them is more important to me than getting to my own domicile. I might have to rethink this....

You souldn't havetrouble getting to OK city. It's off I40. That's a major truck route.

You can get a "personal" pikepass, it is only $40 to start an OTA account. Getting reimbursed is the trick, and what we are going to see about. Yes, he can pull from the cash on his card, but that is a PITA, especially on a weekend when some of the "special" folks are on duty.
OTA recently revamped the way transponders are assigned to accounts and you can now have....a LOT of transponders on one account. Even a personal account can have 5 transponders.
IF you pay for it yourself, and you are running BT thru the state, you can call or go on the web and set your transponder for 3 axles instead of 5 for that trip. Just make sure you fix it back, or they might get a bit...nasty.
